Hi Everyone,

I have come across this coin which I believe is Edward VI, Shilling, Spink #2482.

It is 32mm across the flan and it weighs 5.9 grams.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers

I suspect it is under weight, I had a look on the Spink website and they said it was 6.2 grams. there is no chips to the flan so there is nothing that would take that much weight away from it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

With the damage a £75 coin.

A lot had abuse on the fine silver issue series.

6g is an 'ideal' weight for shillings. In real life they can be undamaged and still vary from as little as 5.75 to 6.25 die to the blanks being hand made.

It's a bit worn and has that graffiti, but providing you don't polish it or anything it's a decent enough example of a 460something year old coin!

So you believe that is it is real Mr Sole?

Are you being derogatory? I don't see anyone called Mr Sole and can only assume that as Peter gave you an honest opinion of your coin you're calling him R.Sole, if not i'd be happy to hear your explaination of the Sole comment.

And here's mine, 6.2g give or take as my scales are'nt perfect, so there you go Mr Sole

To be fair, you did add in the 'R' to that name yourself :D he just said Mr. Sole!

But I'm stealing that for future purposes...

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your replies, you have all been very helpful, as for the mix up in the names, this is my first time using this and I only saw the name above the avatar not the one in the bar. I was just trying to identify who the reply was directed too in a nice way. My apologies if I offended anyone.

Thanks again!

Haha I didn't even notice...

"C'est la Peter"... :P

It most certainly is, not sure he's gonna appreciate being referred to in the feminine sense!! :)

It's a nice coin and a beautiful piece of history ! I am pretty sure it's genuine too.

Weights vary with the hammered coins (especially).

Welcome to the forum !

It's a pretty friendly place here, not too many R.Soles here at all !

cheers Garrett.
