BottleCapDave Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 (edited) Does anyone here know anything about this relatively new listing for English Silver Coinage 30th Anniversary edition by P Alan Rayner? Published 15/03/2023. According to the description, I believe it is a update of the 5th revision with variety additions using the original Seaby numbering system and updated photos? This is not listed on the spinkbooks.com website which seems weird to me as it is a Spink published book. I guess it is time to send an email. https://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/english-silver-coinage-original-30th-anniversary-revised-platinum-edition-newly-illustrated-througho/p-alan-rayner/hardback/9781912667765.html https://www.foyles.co.uk/book/english-silver-coinage-original/p-alan-rayner/9781912667765 Any information about this will be gladly received, TIA. I was looking at this the other day and it says release date September 2024 - was that there before? I didn't see it as in stock anywhere last time I went looking either. Quote

Mr T Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 English Silver Coinage 30th Anniversary edition by P Alan Rayner is still saying September 2024 which seems like quite a lead time for this sort of book. Also, is http://www.spinkbooks.com/ not loading for anyone else at the moment? Quote
Paddy Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Yes - the Spink books site seems to be broken. I have no idea whether this is permanent or just a glitch. 1 Quote

SilverAge3 Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 (edited) Does anyone have copies of these BNJ articles? For some reason these specific pieces throw errors at me when trying to download from BNS/BNJ repository. I'm particularly crestfallen being unable to acquire the Addenda to 2nd ed. C. W. Peck, [Research on the milled coinages], BNJ vol. 33 (1964), 192-93. C. W. Peck, [Coin history of later periods; and, Rarity as it applies to numismatics], 34 (1965), 194-98 C. W. Peck, ‘- Addenda to 2nd ed.’, 36 (1967), 196-98, pl. Thanks so much. Edited January 19, 2024 by SilverAge3 Quote
Mr T Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 No joy with the first two but https://www.britnumsoc.org/images/PDFs/1967_BNJ_36_26j.pdf opened up for me. 1 Quote
CoinParade Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 If you like something different, there's a book called "Newton and the Counterfeiter". It covers the period when Sir Isaac Newton (the scientist) was Master of the Royal Mint (1699-1727) and his dealing with William Chaloner, serial counterfeiter and con-man. It's an amazing story and well written. I have done a book review at https://coinparade.co.uk/newton-and-the-counterfeiter-book-review/ 3 Quote
