Bronze & Copper Collector Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Wow! Hows that for last minute bidding! My €25 snipe didn't stand an earthly 1860 with missing colonafter F:Dh***i's bid, with one second to spare, has to have been a previously laid snipe. He couldn't possibly have had time to make a manual over bid with just 3 seconds to spare. Bet he's cursing that other late very high bid edit:I confess... 'Twas I .... so much for hiding the bidders ID... LOL!!!I sold an inferior specimen for $195 a few months ago.... This specimen will replace an example that I currently have.... I will know for sure once it arrives......Well doneNew specimen now in my collection, previous specimen now on ebay.... (along with some other rarities and scarcities), including an F-8 Mule, Quote
Peter Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 It needs a publication....being a farthing collector for many a year...never heard of it I suppose the TT 1915 farthing was only discovered in the eighties..I still haven't got one and not looking too hard.Quality Edwards and a few of the key date Vickies are my aims although I have done 1849,52,59 many times over....one's to watch out for are 1679,1734 and 1851....all in less than VF...MUST DO BETTER. Rob Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Has everyone taken leave of their senses? linkProbably, please explain more.Because it's only a VF commonwealth penny of which there are invariably examples for sale on ebay at any one time. Latest Spink price on these is £80 in VF which is about right. £207 is somewhat OTT even if it is a reasonable example. I'm still in the dark as to why so many people pay twice what they would if they got it from a dealer, be it a website, off a list or at a fair. It doesn't make sense. If I listed one in that grade at 3 figures it would stay unsold. An Aberystwyth penny in comparable grade sold in the last online CNG sale for less and there's probably only been one other example for sale in the last 12 months - I know what is the better buy. Peter Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 There are bargains on Ebay but know your market and bid accordingly.I did buy a 1849 VF farthing from a dealers list for £6....you can't be an expert on all coins Quote

I charge £1.10 for first class. My cost is £0.85 in materials and paypal fees plus my time plus a 20 mile round trip to the post office. I just had a delivery from an auction company who charged me £15 packing for an album and a bag thrown into a box with some brown paper on it. Postage was £22 on top of that!!!!!net result is ebay have stripped my final value selling fee discount, meaning, yes you've guessed it, more of my money for them....... BA****SNice result on your penny though even with the ebay rip-offs Quote

VickySilver Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Wow, that is very depressive & I have not ever tried to sell via ebay. Well, a pain but hopefully you are still up a few quid. Quote
Peter Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 It is still cheaper and easier than going to coin auctions....just sit on your sofa with a malt and a fat cigar. Quote
