Accumulator Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Here's one to avoid. A perfectly ordinary 1862 6 + G penny, worth a few pounds, being listed as the rare 2 + G for £2.5k! The seller has been informed. Quote

I pointed out that the photo wasn't of sufficient quality to examine the leaves but that the position of the bust was the clincher. He didn't reply further! Quote

Must be an awkward position to be in though if he actually bought it as a 2+G, but surely now he just has to take the hit? Quote

Anyone who forks out good money for a 2+G without knowing their subject is - dare I say it - asking for trouble. Obverse 6 is markedly different from Obverse 2 for those with eyes to see. Quote

damian1986 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Extremely Fine? Please check scans to confirm condition. As in, "grading is subjective so it could go a little either way but I'm pretty sure you'll be happy to purchase as an EF or thereabouts."Is this coin even worth the postage? Quote
Rob Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Extremely Fine? As someone who has collected since they were young, clearly the experience has been wasted time. I sometimes think that people grow up in a complete vacuum, but can't decide whether they are too embarrassed to ask questions or think they know everything in the first place. The me page talks about business hours, suggesting this is a professional business. The grading suggests a case of pinning the grade tail on the donkey scale. Given the number of places you can find illustrated grades, do these people use any reference books or is all grading done on a wishful thinking basis? Quote
