Peckris Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Declan How is the non smoking thing going?in my youth days we used Smartie tubes as a roach.Still going strong, Peter!17 days since I smoked properly, and 13 since my last puff (which wasn't strictly tobacco, but I'm not risking smoking that either this early on....too risky).Money seems to be behaving very strangely - appears to arrive in my pocket and stay there. It's never done that before...The solution to that is a vaporiser - no smoke involved. Quote

What's more worrying is the volume of traffic he receives. Either the world is full of people who haven't a clue (likely), or he has been listing rarities described as common coins (unlikely). Judging by listings of Richard IIIs cunningly disguised as Henrys or Edwards, I'm leaning towards the former. Quote

scott Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) yup, interesting one that, only missing N is 1697, although i cant see any obverse stops either.sold for good money though, but listed correctly this coin is worth far more, especially if it is the BRITA NIA type. Spelling mistakes are definitely rarer and should command a higher price than 'normal' coins. GVLILEMVS, GVLIEMVS etc are usually from a single die. Edited January 24, 2014 by Rob Quote

It's like that no-stop after DEI I had, which proved to be a block, after finding a perfectly matching die WITH stop! Spink agreed and said they'd make the change, but never did, of course! Quote

Spink agreed and said they'd make the change, but never did, of course! Here is what Nicholson had to say about it. Items 102 & 103 refer. http://www.colincooke.com/coinpages/nicholson_part2.htmlIf you look at the plate coin in Peck, the arm is very weak to the point of being absent at the wrist and the place where the N should be. Unless you can find a well struck up arm to set against the adjacent missing N, I'd say it is uncertain. Quote
scott Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 except this one is clearer then both of those coins from that collection, and more of Britannias head is missing. looks more like item 102 on there regarding the Obverse die though.also better then those 2 grade wise. Quote
Coinery Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Just for clarification, I'm strongly onboard the weak-strike theory, otherwise we would have found a well struck example by now (surely) to discount it, or otherwise? That's a great resource on CC, what a man, if only we all documented so thoroughly for the benefit of others!I'm not totally sold on the Dr Nicholson explanation be honest! just.me Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Hurry, hurry…. 105 sold, only one left! I wonder how much the trays are?I have noticed this flaw with eBay BIN prices several times, if you click on the 105 sold, you will see that they are actually £17.99. This has been happening for a good few months now, I have looked up completed items on a whole lot of various things and there are a lot of this mistakes. I don't know if you Bought it Now, if it would charge the £1799 or £17.99, I haven't the bottle (or the spare cash) to try lol. Quote

I've just spoken to some techies at eBay and they say that this is the seller's chosen price. They've even tried to revise the listings with their admin account and the exorbitant price has been set by the seller, presumably they've run out of stock but didn't want to end the listing and then pay fees to relist again later, or some other reason. It seems a bit of a hassle to go and change prices etc., rather than just hit relist when they have stocked up. I suppose every 40p for a BIN fee counts, also it would keep no. of items sold higher which would look better on the listing I guess. Quote
Garrett Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 This amused me. Someone was obviously interested in the lot and had a few quick-fire bids, thought about it for a minute and had another stab, gave up, went away for 10 minutes and came back for a couple of last tries....ha ha ha - got to giggle. The lot itself not that interesting (a bunch of proof dollars 221357180839) and I only noticed because I bid on (and won) some farthings and sixpences from the same vendor.cheers Garrett. Peter Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Why would anyone with an IQ above 50 want to sell a coin cabinet not made out of mahogany or rosewood.... Quote
Rob Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Why would anyone with an IQ above 50 want to sell a coin cabinet not made out of mahogany or rosewood....Buy, not sell is the word you are looking for. Any inadvertent possession of an inappropriate cabinet must surely result in moving it on. Cabinets don't have to be used for coins only, so the potential buyer base is wider than you might assume.
