Nick Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Our favourite ebay seller is not Content with making an arse of his own ebay Name, he's moved onto his wifes and is now making the same greedy mistakes as he did before. So, this one sold on the 1st of Junehttp://www.ebay.co.u...1055%26_rdc%3D1 it was a private listing but sold to r**6 with a 2620 FeedbackHe obviously did'nt like it because it was relisted a few hours later herehttp://www.ebay.co.u...2605%26_rdc%3D1 again was a private listing but was shilled by bought by his mate anthonys so that's 56 quid just in fees alone, wonder when/where he'll actually sell it at a loss Oh BTW, 1st had 5 bids, the 2nd had 36 bids, obviously step bidding so as not to go to far over the genuine bidders bid, but seemed to have made an arse considering he's buying it himself I'm sure you've told us before Dave, but how do you see the identities of 'private bidders'?Also, I can never quite understand things like this :£222 29-May-13 17:22:23 BST£25 29-May-13 18:27:39 BSTHow does a later bid of £25 even register, when an earlier bid jumped it up to £222 ?Because the earlier bid of £222.22 only had to beat a bid of £7.77, so was winning at £8.27. Then another bid came in at £25.88, which was immediately beaten by the £222.22 bid, which was then winning at £26.88.So why don't they show the £8:27 bid, they do usually I think? Otherwise it looks ridiculous. Or at least, adjust the timings so it looks like a proper auction. After all, if an auctioneer has a commission bid on his books, he keeps going up against the floor until one or other of them drops out, but if commission wins it, he doesn't show the timing of the bid as "two days before", or whenever the commission bid arrived with the house - it's the time of the sale. It's because the £8.27 isn't a bid, it's just one bid increment above the current underbidder's bid. There is a link on the bidding page to 'Show automatic bids' if you so wish.It looks and feels very much like a proper auction to me. Remember that you don't get to see timings on any other auction so, if they confuse, ignore them. Edited June 5, 2013 by Nick Quote

This example from DNW in 2008 is nowhere near a die match - different number of pearls on the crown arch for a start. Given the rarity of this year, more than a couple dies would have to be a no-no. Anybody want to do a search for more? The DNW site has been re-vamped and is now much faster, but images seem to be at a premium.Try that with the image included. Edited June 12, 2013 by Rob Quote
DaveG38 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Interesting. The DNW example has 8 pearls, whereas the one on ebay has only 6 so clearly two dies. Interesting too that there are only 5 to 10 examples known (if you believe ESC) and yet two are on ebay at the same time. What are the odds on that I wonder - any mathematicians on here? Both the ebay examples look to be the same die - there seems to be a jewel missing from the crown to the right of centre, giving 6 jewels only on both examples, and both have the same kind of sloping '5' whereas the DNW example seems to have a '5' that could be mistaken for a '3' if not checked carefully.Curiously, there was a simlar one to the DNW one on ebay some 12 months or so ago, which was advertised as a 1763, yet seemed to be a 1765 as it was very similar to the DNW one. This went for reasonable money - way more than a 1763 would fetch, but nowhere near a 1765. I'm wondering if I missed a bargain here!Back to the two on ebay. When I look at the 1763s on ebay, it's clear that there are two types one with 7 jewels and one with 8. I can't find one with 6 and the broken piece to the right of the centre, which suggests the 1765 maybe isn't an altered '3'. However, when I look at the 1762 examples there are again two types, one with 7 jewels and one with 6. The one with 6 seems to have a wider gap between the centre of the crown and the first jewel, so my conclusion is that it is most likley that these two 1765s are both altered 1762s. This would also account for the metal disturbance at the base of and to the right of the '5'.Of course, as you say there may be two different dies, but that seems unlikely given the small mintage. I'm plumping for fake myself. Quote

Is their search facility working? I have assumed not in keeping with the rest of the site. Quote

The I of IND worries me, it needs to be to tooth and to me it was too inconclusive to make a bid. Anyway I've got a slightly better one so wouldn't have gone to £15 just to flip it.
