eBay have just ripped all my listings off and suspended my account for selling my own eBooks (for the umpteenth time their ebay listing checker bot has somehow come to the conclusion that the Rotographic ebooks do not belong to me).

Of course, there is no phone number and it's Easter weekend. So I will loose a day or more worth of sales before they even see my message. If their really was another large auction site, people would leave ebay in droves and I'd be one of the first! With all the money they make, the next very important step is a proper customer care dept. I'd even put up with one in India!

I bought 40 Scottish 1959 1/-'s a few years back for less than 50p each.

In some old coin monthlies ( from the 70's) they were advertised as key dates and selling for several £'s each...as were 1960 crowns....maybe an investment.

Or were the million or so 1959's taken from circulation and now exist in top drawers all over the country.

I hae many Scots bobs from 1959 sitting in the bags with the rest of them. Even the '53 Pennies sit in bags with their brethren, they are just not that rare Only the '53 Bobbers get special places, 'cause there are only 40.000 of them not a million of them.

BTW I hae a problem with Coin Yearbook unduly referring to 1707-2006 coins as "English coins" remember they are British now, not Cornish, Watfordian, Liverpudlian and unfortunately nae Scottish.

At $1146.36 ie around £600 it looks far too cheap to be true!

I'm not an Elizabeth collector, but I can't say I like the face on the coin and the fact that her crown seems to be well in advance of her head? But then I could be wrong, but I would never chance buying it - even if I had the money

I have noticed it, because I am a buyer from mainly overseas eBay sites and rarely only USA sites. It just comes down to the stuff I collect and want is on eBay.co.uk or ebay.es. All of my last several purchases have come from the UK site, the Spanish site, or the French site. I have recently found it easier to not even bother with the USA main eBay.com site because it is a waste of time.

This guy has a whole load of apparently very nice coins ending on ebay shortly. Coins include a 1714 farthing, 1716, 1709, 1707 crowns plus many more. However, his feedback is obviously dodgy, his english is terrible, he works a one day listing, and I doubt very much that he is in the USA at all, despite what it says on ebay. In short one to avoid like the plague.

The only thing that isn't clear is exactly how the scam works. The coins might be fakes, but if so they are very good, so I suspect they are photos of genuine coins. Assuming this is so, then he isn't selling fakes, but is operating a payment scam. However, he does say paypal welcome, so any scam should leave buyers with some protection, and paypal out of pocket. It must be my inate sense of honesty, but I really can't see how this will make enough money to be worthwhile - am I missing something here, or just being naive?

You're just being naive!

They are real coins, probably photos stolen from other listings (that has happened to me quite a bit). Once the buyers have sent all the money, he simply withdraws it from paypal and then does a runner. He probably used a stolen credit card to verify his paypal account, so they will have trouble getting the money back for the buyers, who won't receive anything.

I bet the seller is really in China.

Grading GI copper is a nightmare. GF lustre as stuck examples occur.

This type of coin really annoys me. It is a rareish type - stop after GEORGIVS to left of wreath.

They don't know this - they have tried to sell it before at this price and failed. If they sold it at a

high but fair price for the normal type I would buy it and we both would be happy!
