Yep...its a genuine £2.00 coin.Only in America.

Well, you say that. But it's actually London Coins, a UK firm. Of course it shouldn't be too surprising given their interest in swaying us all to the benefits of slabs. But £80?? For a £2 coin? Will anyone buy do you think?

It's the London Coin Company, not to be confused with London Coins Ltd who have the close link to CGS UK.

Ah, thanks for that Nick. Because confused, I was. And as Yoda says (somewhere) Confusion is the path to the dark side .. :P

I'm confused too (nothing unusual there)

The text refers to the limited edition proof, but this looks like a standard circulation £2 to me and PCGS would have added a P to the label surely?

how about this for a claim

You are bidding on a piece of history. These recently discovered environmentally controlled vault coins were owned by a late personal friend of the Queen of England, and it is believed that these coins were given as gifts from the royal family to this prominent American family. These coins are among the most pristine examples of the 1971 UK New Penny in existence as this was the first year of the new penny in Great Britain. I am currently in possession of 200 coins of this grading. If your interested in more than one unit, please let me know. Thanks for your time and consideration.

amazing.......ski :D

Yes. That is certainly amazing for an AU coin.

Though personally I would grade it BS.

Not an ebay coin I know (actually from Antony Wilson's site) but this penny portrait amused me. It looks as if the King is choking on a fishbone! Or maybe it's the dysentery the poor chap died from? Either way, not a happy fellow. :P

If his left pupil was showing I would suggest he had consumed some strange mushrooms.

I'm supprised the moneyer let that one out....or maybe he did lose his hand.

I actually saw that yesterday while browsing his site and thought it was fairly amusing. On a somewhat unrelated note, are the prices on his site reasonable for most hammered coins? His site seems to be about the only place that I can buy a large selection of hammered and I was wondering if they were fair or if I should hold off on buying some of his and try to score some on eBay or at a coin show.

Gosh, yes. I'd pay to slab a valuble coin too ...

Well, if he didn't know before, now he can have every confidence that he's got a genuine, Fine 15 example of a 1917 penny :D

Just imagine if you had spent 6p on a 1917 circulated penny only to realise it wasn't real :o

A warning to new collectors....avoid gimmicky dealers. The coins in this set really have no value :o

So THAT's what happened to the unsold ACCURATE GRADING GUIDES, only 6/- plus p&p from the Exchange & Mart, late 60s... :P

Long before the Web, when everyone used the postal mail to communicate...I used to subscribe to the Exchange and Mart to make contact with English Dealers!...Too long ago! <gggg>.

It's nice to see Peck and Bob showing their colours :D

Looking back at old coin mags there were coin fairs every week seemingly all over the country.

We can't be far away from 3D viewing of coins so you can get in close to that rare av circ 1899 1D. ;)

I love looking back at old coin magazines and price lists. Nothing better than to see a 1977 dealer price list Barber and Seated dimes for 30 cents each (minted 1836-1916) but the US bicentennial coins NEVER TO BE MINTED AGAIN!!! were selling for well above $1 for an uncirculated quarter, $2 for an uncirculated half and nearly $4 for an uncirculated dollar! I guess people used to buy anything, even back then.

"IN DISPLAYED ONLY, WONDERFUL CONDITION" is a new grade to me. Persumably that's what Americans would call XF-3 ?
