However any specialised shilling collector should know his subject.

It would be an idea to contact the seller or even give him a link to the forum.

I'll contact the seller and see what he says.

Davies states Type A6 has the T of Gratia pointing to a bead, this clearly doesn't

That's odd, my copy of Davies doesn't mention that. Mine says for obverse 5: "I of Vict to space. 8 beads between A's. Short serifs in I's".

Attached is the obverse from an 1868 shilling, which can only be S.3906A. I think it shows that the advertised 1867 is not of the same type.

Sorry Nick, its an I, i need bloody spex  It looked like a T lol, anyway, the I of GRATIA still doesn't point to a bead for the A4 Type or for the A6 type

I need my glasses to see anything clearly these days. The I enclosed by single quotes certainly does look like a T. I'm not sure where the I of GRATIA is supposed to point, Davies uses the I of VICT to distinguish the two types.

Either way, the second and third heads are quite different. The most obvious is at the end of the pony tail. The second head hair tapers away to a rounded end, whereas the third head ends in a hook-like ringlet of hair.

The attached is an 1865 shilling obverse which is unambiguously S.3905.

The seller replied that it's a type A6 (and thus not a type A4) because the die axis is inverted.

Its nothing to do with inverted axis tho, its the hair at the back of her neck and Is and Ts pointing to beads or not.

I think he's bought it as an A6 from someone who's then told him that its rare and now he's selling it as such

Am surprised he sells anything with grading that bad, thats shocking !!!

Well, presumably he was responsible for the condition of the coin as his id proudly states. What is more worrying is that it has 4 bids already.

Still under melt price though Rob (which is where I suspect it is heading).

Hopefully that will be its final destination - for the benefit of all.

It's the bit at the end I find funny. link

That's an apology for an apology

He certainly doesn't like full stops, does he.

It's the "sorry for the grammer it should read a little batterd" that gets me. It's always funny to see anything corrected with yet another misprunt (sic).

HAVE NEVER ATEMPTED TO STRAIGHTEN EDWARD THE ELDER

That's odd, I always thought it was Edward II who needed 'straightening'? :D

I THINK LOOKING IN I CAN MAKE OUT WHAT LOOKS TO BE A HAND

No you muppet - that's yours, holding the coin so it can be photographed

eBay...

Really? £500?!

I struggled to get 500p last time I sold one of these! I like how she's put 'mule' in the title so it comes up when people search for the 20p!
