Rob Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) Yep. £250 max now. Which if you remember Dave, I said the shilling you had recently was either a silly amount, or 250 insured and cross your fingers. Edited January 3, 2015 by Rob Quote
azda Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 So you can't add extra insurance? So what about Hermes or other carriers? Or if he was a part of the ebay global shipping? Quote
Coinery Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Yes, beware anyone listing on eBay, who haven't checked the post office charges recently! Before Christmas I was able to send an item to the USA, with £1000 cover, for around £11...not anymore! It's now £84 for the same service! Quote
azda Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 £11 to £84, so what extra service are they giving you for the £73 increase? Have you checked other courier services for prices?RM seem as though tgey want to lose customers Quote

HistoricCoinage Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Definitely read the small print. Most couriers won't carry any 'antique' or anything made of gold or silver. This will void most coins, so do check. Quote
Gary1000 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 And of course sending anything uninsured is at the sellers risk not the buyers. Quote
Coinery Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I wonder what the larger businesses do? It does seem to shut down trade for all but the cheapest items? Quote
azda Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 The bigger businesses would use interlinkexpress. I use them through another company when in Scotland, i can send up to 30 kilos within the EU for £22 (was £15) and my last box arrived in 2 days. I don't think individuals can just wander into a depot and post though but definately worth checking out amd see what is required, maybe there's something in it for you as an agent for them? Quote

Bidding currently at over £230, seller has a feedback score of 2, are people really that greedy that they will gamble that it really is 22 carat gold?Unless of course it is a rare collectible coin I have never heard of before! Coinery Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 A teenager kidding his mates down the pub that he's found a rare coin! Quote
Rob Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 The winning bidder had a feedback of 604! Hardly a novice to ebay, though one might question their numismatic knowledge. Quote
Michael-Roo Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Possibly a poorly made facsimile intended for a cheap item of jewellery? Quote
azda Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 A trained chimp with a zero feedback could fool some of these idiots who use ebay. Since When die a £2 GOLD coin Have GILT written over it Quote
DaveG38 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 It's obviously the rare gilt over helmet variety. 1 Quote
Flash Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 They're bog standard stylised rubbish which were used for cheap watch fobs, I've seen a few over the years, all brass. Quote
damian1986 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) I got an offer of 30% list price on a lovely coin earlier. I can't even be arsed going to the trouble of walking to the post office to post it at those prices. Anyway yes so naturally I'm overjoyed seeing ze market get carried away over this. Just gonna pop into the shed and get the Dremel engraver onto some Sovereign-sized brass buttons. Edited January 7, 2015 by damian1986 Quote

Serious question as I wonder am I missing something? On grading. I spent the morning looking through mainly George II shillings and halfcrowns on eBay. I need a LIMA halfcrown in a nice EF if anyone wants to help. Anyway,UNC - some wear, some scratches but a reasonable coin in handEF - a coin that is only actually gVF but was struck in high relief, or any later milled piece that couldn't conceivably be called UNC by the above definitionVF - a high relief coin in Fine conditionF - the lowest grade a coin can be givenX+ - an arbitrary suffix applied to bring the BIN price in line with book, or the mark of a TPG grader who can't make do with a 70-point grading system 1 Quote
Nick Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) This aside what's the problem with the coin jac? This particular seller's grading is usually way too high. You need to replace the word "virtually" with "nowhere near" and it will seem more accurate. Just have a look at the "choice high grade" 1905 florin that he is selling. He grades it as about EF, whereas it is much more like VF. Edited January 11, 2015 by Nick Quote
