Nordle11 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Welcome to the dark-side But seriously that's a great coin AND an equally great photo, especially through a slab! Quote

Nordle11 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Considering over 100 million were struck, I found this one of the harder dates to find in top grade/with a good strike. I think this would be my 3rd upgrade, but definitely getting there. Very happy. 5 Quote
IanB Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Thanks, I am really pleased with it. I would like to think it's better than EF, possibly AUNC? It's got a lovely tone to it and some nice detailing. Quote
PWA 1967 Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 IAN its definately AUNC ....IMO But you have the coin in hand Being Honest mate on the larger pictures may not of been stored brilliantly, but still nice. But if you paid the right money thats the main thing Quote
IanB Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I think I got it for a good price, £11. Out of interest how do you spot how it's been stored? It looks okay to me, but any pointers would be appreciated. 1 Quote
PWA 1967 Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Its a lovely coin and for the money was a good buy Its only my opinion and thats all...... so maybe i am being picky,i dont have it in hand. A lot of the reverse does not just look like dirt and thats my only question. On the reverse between the P in penny and the tide line ,just wondered what was going on ?. Its a nice coin for the money though ,so maybe just me Happy collecting and just wrapped the FOC penny up..... and will post tomorrow Pete. Quote
IanB Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Thanks Pete, I have had a look with a 10 X loupe and I can see some small dots, possibly verdigris, maybe. However I still like it a lot, so still happy with it. I guess when trying to grade a coin that's at a higher grade then that's when a small difference actually makes a big difference. Oh well got to keep striving for the best but sometimes may have to settle for slightly below that. looking forward to receiving the coin from you, I will let you know when it arrives. Ian Quote
PWA 1967 Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 It may not be verd/corrosion but a common date and sometimes you see coins stored that show signs of blue (on bronze ) mainly from pvc ,chemicals or tinges of verd (green/bright) that will show under a bright light. Hope i have not put you off as a lovely coin for the money. Be lucky. Pete. Quote
IanB Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 No you haven't put me off. I am here to learn, so please keep teaching. I still like the coin, hopefully I can look after it and enjoy it for a few more years. 1 Quote
