  10. Paulus,

are you familiar with a member named Mike ( M. Turjanica ) ?. I ask as after a post he has offered me 1851 1d and stated his images it were too large to post on the site. I behaved rather naive in that i gave him my email and he sent me said images which look rather good, but upon reflection am wondering if this is a scam.

    regards

    Frederick

  12. Hi all, Have any of you used an iphone add on macro lens to photograph your coins. If you have do you: a.have any pics. b. Any recommendations on the best add on macro lens for iphone 6. thanks
  13. Which Derek i would like to connect and possibly visit Reading Club?
  14. 1.For me Eye appeal comes first. 2. I am not overly concerned with the amount of lustre but rather Tone & Strike - 2nd 3 - would be grade 4. Rarity And price would be determined by a combination of the above
  15. My recommendation from experience is to have this removed by a good jeweller. If done carefully there should be minimal damage.
  16. That really is toned so well. just love it
  17. Looks as though it may have been cleaned
  18. I would grade the 1934 at EF+, and the 1914 at VF
  19. Very insightfull article - I believe that both this article and your sight are invaluable as they assist in spreading knowledge around the processes , the terms and as such thank you for sharing
  20. Peter we wish her a speedy recovery
  21. This is an area that i have as yet failed. My pictures at their best can be described as adequate. I will be spending time learning to improve this particular skill. But everything with time. Having shared on this site i believe that my failings have been due to: 1. Not taking pictures in day light 2. Using a Microscope or scan Judging from the info many have shared i believe the way forward for me is to get a macro lens for camera, with a small tripod. And then to always take my pics in broad daylight. Having said that i am always willing to learn what and how others achieve such great pics. Nicholas is clearly a man with great skills and vision (perhaps i also need to visit spec savers) Someone said i should put a magnifying glass above the coin and use my iphone - not sure of the result havent tried this yet. On the coins i would agree EF for the hammered and perhaps a slightly more generous Aunc for the 1899, but would specify that it has a scratch above Queens head. Hoping there is a lot more discussion around this topic.
  22. A special thanks for recommending Smokerings - I have just placed my order
  23. Pete, been looking for you since you first mentioned it.
  24. I have an other lot of those 1820 sovereigns , but i may hold on to them for abitDealer paid a very good price for them , received some good advise from a few on here , but when it comes to selling i think il look into properly as i did with 3 i sold , good job i didnt jump straight in and sell to those who made offers , id have been a good 400 light In some respects your statement is not fair, as we all had some poor pictures to work from, some which were just taken from the net! £400 over three coins is not a lot, especially if the person you sold them to had the privilege of seeing them in hand? This is the old problem of trying to make a financial judgement on images alone! You have to cover yourself by a small margin to allow for the details you can't see in an image, that could easily drag the resale value down by £600...what would you do if you were speculating on a grainy picture of a replacement car, which was due an MOT? Glad you got a result though! Prices are a strange thing - I have never and will never offer a top price on poor images i'd be a fool to do that. The team attempted to get you to provide decent pictures which were not forthcoming.Had you provided decent pictures you may even have secured better prices than you've realised. I have never met such a fine team of experts as i have on this site, and for all the assistance they have provided me I was taken aback by your statement.
  25. a very generous offer -the most i'd offer is £480 - 1820 and £500 matt proof sov & half
