  1. Hi all, Im looking for an uncirculated 1908 and 1909 penny. Good pics required best regards
  2. Coinery, Thanks i tried it on 3 coins - the last one a 1864 penny as i was most impressed with the amount of decontamination showed up on the ear bud. I really am impressed but must say was to afraid to to wipe the 1864 with the ear bud so i just dabbed it on /off then allowed it to dry on a lint free cloth. What i like is that as you say i have since checked the coins very carefully and no signs of hairline scratches. Thank you
  3. Good advice - in fact i was thinking of trying it on a 60's penny and 60's shilling
  4. Paulus - thanks Stuart. Most interesting ive always wondered if there is any way that i can clean prior to putting in coin capsules but everyone has advised never doing it . Now your approach is rather interesting (decontaminating - love the reference) If it works well i can see the benifits of doing this - i think i just may give it a go best regards
  5. Terrible discipline on my behalf - will make sure all future posts are in the correct thread
  6. Hi all, Ive seen a few posts recommending acetone to clean coins , i was always under the impression that one should never attempt to clean coins. Is this a normal practice in the coin collecting world? Is it being used on any coins regardless of the metal. Having asked the question I will still shy away from cleaning coins. Comments on this practice would be much appreciated. best regards
  7. I have recently purchased the identification of British 20th ||Century Bronze coin varieties - i already have Gouby. Perhaps i need to buy a reference book on grading?
  8. Thanks all, All great advice just me getting a bit ahead of myself i guess. I live in South East England not to far from Southampton. My current focus is on Victoria pennies and shillings and King Edward VII pennies and shillings. Thanks all for your advice. best regards. Looking preferably for Uncirculated or near so
  9. As someone who since returning to the UK has found that the only way of finding coins is via ebay and one or two online auctions that ive found through searching i hear alot on this forum of buying via Dealers can the team recommend a few good Dealers whose sites i can continue to look through. Ive bought from Declan and a few others on this site .Is there a list somewhere. Getting to coin fairs may be the best bet but to be honest its difficult finding time to get down to Coin fairs even if i new where they were.

  14. Thanks gents, Obverse is attached on a link above. To look at its got about 70 -75% lustre. Im using Lindner Digital Microscope for my pics as my scanner is down - and all my pics appear to have these fleck marks. Not sure if its because the lighting in my Office is not that good or my ability to use the microscope. If anyone else is using the Lindner Microscope are you finding your pics all appear with flecks. best regards
