It also happens with the TPG's themselves. Put two identical coins same grade one in NGC slab and one in PCGS slab and the PCGS will sell for a lot more than the NGC. Almost to the extent that NGC is the poorman's grader with ANACS reflecting the true price of what the coin should sell at . Are the graders at PCGS any better qualified than NGC or ANACS?I very much doubt as some of the graders @ PCGS have worked for both the other two companies. But human folk will follow any news bulletin which most are just fake or rumours about standards @ each TPG and it is probably generated by the TPG's themselves. So in the end it gives the collector the mindset that if he buys a PCGS slab he must pay more for it.It is a nonsense idea but that is how marketing is done these days . Stir the interest> create the demand> Package it> Sell for as much as humanly possible

1909 identification markers
zookeeperz replied to zookeeperz's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
So it looks like forget the P and the trident and just use the 1 in the date and the N legs pointing to space I think there must be an inbetweeny somehow I say that because I see the normal 1909 and the 1 you can see sits right in the gap and other coins you have to keep looking and looking because it's half on and half off but definitely not over the tooth fully? -
1909 identification markers
zookeeperz replied to zookeeperz's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
Also Terry your P is pointing to the tooth and should be the gap or is that an optical illusion? I going by Davids markers for ID but it seems some coins don't abide by the rule. As mine clearly is a normal rev D but has 2 markers for rev E yours is rev E with one ID marker for rev D. ? -
I am a little confused as to the markers to identify reverse D and E . I usually plum straight for the 1 in date over the border tooth but that isn't always visible . So I have to use the other markers which also doesn't shed much light on lowballers . Now I think I have a pretty good eye for angles and following lines of sight . Now this picture below is of a normal REV D 1909 but there is no way in the world I am convinced that the P No matter what angle you looked at it will ever line up with a border tooth same for the trident center prong. So my question is are there more varients than is thought?

British Silver coins by Peter J Davies Since 1816 Covers all the Silver and cupro coins right up until 1980. It's a must have book for the early years. I don't know of any others for that era.

So they are saying they know they have less than genuine members? lol

You know the most worrying thing of all. This now the norm for fakebay . I see a less than rosey future if they don't do something to police their site. And despite the buyer guarantee spiel it's going through that process that takes an age. The why do I have to wait a month for my money the seller closed his account ? why are you trying to contact him? he doesn't exist. Even if you phone to speak to someone they have a bot on every call trained to answer every question except the one you're asking. With the inevitable do you wish to return to the menu? You can contact us via the help section bla bla bla. run by doogooders who have jack to do with bloody paypal lol

Have I missed something or is this total BS the 1950 Belgie rev is rare km#141.1 what the hell is KM#13b.1 when it's at home. Must be a error surely lol. this is what I mean with online auctions. this particular one is full of misquotes on coin rarities like there is an 1878 florin in good grade £100-£200 Now unless I made a mistake the 1878 NDN 48 arcs is supposed to exist and is rare. but the 1878 42 arcs with die number only the proof is rare and that coin isn't a proof. https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/james-and-son-auctioneers/catalogue-id-srjam10091/lot-608a9502-78de-472a-a0fc-a80b0091c3f3

Yes but surely I should know before I purchase what the cost is and not find out once i have paid?

I tell you who flouting the law these gaming companies with electronic sales Now I am not sure how the law stands but I am pretty sure you have to state vat inc or exc on sales. The gaming companies for example say I want to buy 150 gold for a game will have a price list. 150 gold @$2.99 So you would expect to be charged roughly £2.50. But they charge £3.10. I don't know who does their conversion rate but he needs sacking. No mention of this sale is exc of vat. I think that is breaking the law ?
-
I think we are call between a rock and a hard place. Alternative is go through main auction sales and be whacked all over the shop for commission, vat, what I don't understand that if you're selling an item you pay vat and if you're buying an item you pay vat. 2 vat commissions on 1 item surely that is wrong? Shop seller would decide off his own back weather he would include vat in his pricing or swallow it to increase sales. But that is a voluntary decision made by him. How do auctioneers get to slam Vat twice for 1 item or is that the Govt again using double taxation laws? Come to think of it the auctioneers are on a good thing. 20% hammer price for both seller and buyer they get 40% of the value of the item they don't own. Some sleeping partner that is lol
-
No nor me lols but last bill was for 2.42 and only sold 16 quids worth so it seems to fit that 15% bracket. if it is nobody said anything.
-
Has ebay increased its commission from 10%-15% now?
-
How does he get traffic through to look at it lol. Hardly search terms you would use to look at coins. "What is it" lols
-
Also why should my coin worth £2000 cost more to grade than a coin worth £200. Are they telling me by default that they don't really look at lower value coins or they somehow have a different grading system for expensive coins? That side of grading is a rip off and just to pad the TPG wallets . A coin is a coin is a coin grading process is the same . The value of the coin is for my benefit not for some hoody disguised as a TPG to add an imaginary cost on top. Outrageous

I like it as well don't leave the cabinet door unlocked . I always steered away from them because of the weak strikes and the shallow design features. But when you get one like that and I guess it was an early struck coin Lovely crisp lines then they are a joy to have. With the focus always on the 1905-08-09 the other dates can be sourced at much less than they should be. I think all UNC florins of edward are scarce
-
I thought it also looked like it might with a stretch be 3/5 Is what is making the 3 look like its pointing horizontal and there are two finishing points on the tail and an extended top part behind the where the right top edge starts but prob just my eyes playing tricks
