  1. How about this for BU http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1863-penny-BU-/331459258624?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item4d2c82e900
  2. Very useful. Where are you from Cath? Reason for my question is to find out how you managed to escape the export - re-ipmort fees payable to HMRC. I am told FedEx can mark it a shipment for export and reimport but this is more of a hit and miss
  3. From one newbie and one penny collector to another "Welcome Hazelman".
  4. I saw this coin in the auction and it looked like a trace of the H was to be seen. I did bid on it though
  5. LCA had two massive lots of Maundy money sold in the previous auction covering every year from 1837 to 2014 I believe. Why dont you ask them for the buyer's details and explain your effort to the. What you are undertaking is very commendable. I wish you all the very best. I can help with a few pennies.
  6. Damn meant to say R and I will not touch at their base
  7. I've just been looking at Spink's photos of the Obv 11 and Obv 12 and I'm going mad trying to spot the differences, and that's on two high grade coins. What's the clincher that even works for worn specimens? The B and R in BRITT will not touch, This is the clincher. The next thing to look for is the nose which will be slightly hooked with the bulge present at 20% below the bridge of the nose.
  8. http://i.imgur.com/ekuNOjF.jpg A clear giveaway
  9. Looking closely at the 2 and what possibly underlies it, I'm wondering if it's been 'dropped in' over (perhaps) an 8. But then again, that would be far more work than removing the H ? Yes I agree with clearly the last digit of a 1888 penny has been carved to look like a 2. It would be far more work but will look authentic as people will be focussed on finding the H as opposed to looking at the other possibility. Everyone is aware of the 'rubbing the H away' trick so here's a new technique that's becoming popular
  10. Nice kill Jordan
  11. Hi Gary, Thanks for responding. Been under the weather a bit so could not respond earlier. I have attached 2 more pics one of reverse and of the coin side by side with the obverses showing of this coin and a normal Gouby C. http://i.imgur.com/rEAxYJu.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rghabDj.jpg Thanks for the help. Regards, Prax
  12. I think this has been the case for a few months now, but isn't restricted to bunheads. There will always be a restricted number at the top of a pyramid, so 1 or 2 players cutting back must have an effect. When the best known pieces are struggling to take off, you know the end really is nigh - but we haven't got there yet. Another point if I may add is that in Jun the pound was 1.74 to the dollar now it is 1.49. So that's like a 15% drop. All the good coins have been in the auctions in the States and naturally buyers for GB coins from this side of the pound are capping their high bids. Problem is the long term outlook for the dollar is bullish so interesting times ahead
  13. There is a slight difference where the lower half of the coin is slightly bloated but this is difficult to pickup unless you see a few open 3s in the metal
  14. http://imgur.com/GfYJuvD Here is a normal 3 and the line flipping the lower arc of 3
  15. Simplest thing to do is to take a high res pic and to expand the 3. Draw a straight line on top of the serif extending outwards with the open 3 it will extend outwards without touching the lowing arc of the 3 http://imgur.com/Aprx102,im6ZGZ1 http://imgur.com/Aprx102,im6ZGZ1#1 HTH
  16. Yet another penny I have been studing some of my beaded border pennies and I came across this strange one. It is not a Gouby Obv A or B as the bust is clear of the beads. Yet I am not certain it is a Gouby C either because it has a very thick rim in comparison to all the other beaded obverses that I have (8 or 9 in VF+ condition) Though the first 10 or so beads below the bust seem to stick to each other the linear circle terminates only after the 3rd bead below the bust so it can't be a C1 either. Could I have missed something? Please provide your valuable input. Any help much appriciated. http://i.imgur.com/yn16k61.jpg Prax
  17. I too think that was precisely the case. I have been following the pennies and many of the Pennies from the Forest Gate sale made it Heritage. Not only did the buyer of those bargains at the Forest Gate sale not settle with the killing he made there. He listed many of those in the Heritage Auction and made another killing by starting many his coins with a reserve greater than what he paid for at Forest Gate (remarkably many sold) http://coins.ha.com/c/lot-image.zx?saleNo=3037&lotNo=29748&lotIdNo=141084&inventoryNo=303729748&id=12053042 https://www.spink.com/lot-description.aspx?id=320001024
  18. LOL Rob Cheshire cat Well no problem .... just let something like this happen to me https://www.spink.com/lot-description.aspx?id=320001013
  19. Oh dear!!!! Oh dear!!!! Can anything be far from the truth David, I just tend to follow the coins I have handled. One of the reasons I love to grade my coins. With the 1882 no Hs it was easy. I looked up the CGS population report, which was 3 in this case. I know that one of the no Hs is an XF coin http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=131&searchlot=2055&searchtype=2, so I knew rightaway that out of the remaining 2 I graded the one. I also knew I was among the first to grade pennies, the rest then falls into place
  20. Good Evening All, Been doing a bit of digging and here is the info that I found on the CGS 1882 no Hs There are 3 CGS graded no Hs Graded CGS 3 – UIN - 0002837 Graded CGS EF 60 – Sold LCA 06/12/2010 – Lot 2055 The one on ebay currentlyI have handled a and almost certainly c as well though I did not grade coin c). I have to dig up my notes on the other coin. I was involved with grading just one 1882 no H, which at that time was a washer with some verd (possibly on Britannia’s arm and Vicky’s neck) Here is a brief history on a) since I purchased it. Purchased on 03/06/2007 LCA 1198 - £ 700 Graded on 14/08/2007 Sold to Mog a coin dealer in Bournemouth – 22/02/2008 - £ 800 Mog sells it to an unknown buyer from Windsor – 14/03/2008 Unknown buyer sells it on ebay - 28 Apr 2008 Coin is offered on LCA 01/12/2012 – lot 560 and sold for £ 800 No idea what happened after that but it looks like LCA purchased it and it is now available on their site for sale http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=retailv2_details&uin=0002837 Prax
