completely forgot where i put those! where do you find out more information about the coins contained in hoards and/or detecting finds(assuming they declare them and not straight to ebay) a website/reference text available somewhere?

1919 sixpence ms-66 this sixpence also gave me a shock last night (albeit it was me that made the price go from $96 to $450 in the first place ) Glad i did not get it in the end i would not be a happy chap paying $450 for that even though it was ms66 (i enjoy my slabbed british ) also have another recently that was shocking 1935 half crown ms-66 going from their website(assuming i am using it right) this went for ~$650 or so quite glad i decided the '35s i have at the moment are better and used the advice given here that buy the coin not the grade(a few too many scratches for a ms-66) maybe a coin collector or 2 won the lottery and just dgad about the prices they pay?

for those of you that missed it and i thought my bid of £7000 was going to do the job of a half decent snipe 1917 sovereign

any idea if weakly struck coins/badly worn dies get treated any differently during the grading process or do they just get treated in a way where the missing detail is counted as an overall -ve on their grading scale?

didnt expect auction to go as fast as it did i so i missed my lot went for more than i was going to bid so i guess that's something?

much much cheaper buying them raw also so a plus side just to learn how to grade for yourself

did you cut off the information at just before the 1927 proof set or was that done when you were sent it from the mint? Would be interesting to see the information for the other proof sets and stuff too if you have it available?

regarding brightness for the lights are they pretty bright or more a dull light? if that makes any sense whatsoever

what is this wizardry? done by fixing 30+ pictures together like previously mentioned in the other thread? ill need to give it a go once i get the whole taking a picture of the obverse and reverse to a decent quality down......which i still kind of suck at. on a side note other apologies to sidetrack but i cant seem to find anywhere how the edge lettering is done wondered if someone knows? from what ive read there is no definitive answer whether it is done before or during the striking of the faces? if anyone knows anything i appreciate it

have a look at the edge milling, if it is unevenly spaced or crudely done with a file it would be a fake also have a look at the worn high points of the thistle, if they have a look like they have been worn down with a file or anyother seemingly forced wear rather that the normal of a coin again worth having a look at as far as i can go without getting the better pictures

Don't you hate it when you buy a coin but after numerous attempts to contact the seller asking for a week or so to transfer and withdraw funds(was £200 short) it is resisted without replying to my messages and opens up unpaid case kick in the nads but at least well least i know i'm going in the right direction with this whole coin collecting malarky

fellow collectors hoping i can gain from your experiences with this i am looking to buy a gold hammered coin pre 1500AD from the U.S and was wondering what sort of things i am needing to worry about with regards to the customs duties and VAT that are required to bring it home? i was skimming over documents a while ago and read something about items over 100 years old being considered antiques and not have vat and duties applied? but not sure if i read this correctly or had a few too many and just made up the story? just basically looking for advice on how to make this go as smoothly as i can and what to expect thanks everyone in advance
