  1. I'm looking for North 2. Galata out of stock. Others don't ship to oz..any ideas?
  2. I like eagle 2*2" plastic holders with Mylar inserts. You can buy them directly from them in the US: https://www.eaglecoinholders.com/new/catalog/index.php?cPath=49_56 Mylar holds the coin in place without movement (preventing any wear) and is long lasting and acid proof.
  3. Leave about 2-3 mm to view the outside of the rim... There are 3 sides on a coin you know...
  4. Wonder if I can trouble someone in helping me find a listing of the fine silver Edward VI shilling die varieties. Looked in BNJ, but no details of portrait and reverse types. Nick
  5. I picked up the EVI Shilling from Spink. Nothing left to spend with for St James/Knightsbridge. (Sad emoticon) What did you win at St James? Nick
  6. I've cracked out a noble from a US auction graded at MS 63, that was graded at good VF in theUK!!
  7. I think that the spink catalogue is holding well. There's no pricing for any hammered above VF I think for good cause. Who knows what the market will pay in these upper registers.. I also think that the US market is big, but they focus on what they know best and are safe with- encapsulated milled. Not hammered.
  8. We should all OK as long ad Philip Skingley was watching carefully...
  9. It was illustrated in Clarke-Thornhill and Gantz and C-T bought Thorburn 225.I'll have a cursory look for the 1E when I've tiime Brilliant if you can Rob. Thanks. Nick
  10. Rob, where did you find all that provenance on the Briot halfcrown? Incredible! Wish I could do that with my York hcrown.
  11. Oops, now to pay for lot 65... Fell in love with the damn thing- York halfcrown early variety with trimmed edges with a shear, big flan, few die breaks ..long time hole in my collection.
  12. My wife takes the same interest in my coins as I do in her countless pairs of shoes. I tell her that my coins can be a good investment.. She responds with "my shoes are an investment too- in my happiness. Ok. "
  13. My guess, buyers who thought it authentic. Presumably not english speaking...
  14. Exactly! Good fun really. As long as I don't get a collections agency knocking on my door for the Total £ 3,914.79!!!
  15. Get this. I received an invoice for 6 lots with all the details but did not participate in this auction at all!!!
  16. So sell your coins with good online bidding systems, buy from the ones with poor or no online bidding!!!!
  17. Here's the problem to all prospective buyers. Multiply the DNW estimate by two as they underestimate, then multiply again by two because its a 50s/60s gentleman's collection - THEN multiply by two once more if those Petition Crown mob have their sights on it!
  18. I've seen individual coins in collections fetch prices that never will be matched. One word - Hype.
  19. I have a H6 Calais Groat with mysterious die lines on the obverse. Circular rings behind the portrait. http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/2tearsinabucket1/media/image_zps4e0dde41.jpg.html?sort=9&o=10 Any thoughts?
  20. Would love to see pics Nicholas! http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/2tearsinabucket1/media/image_zps5156f762.jpg.html http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/2tearsinabucket1/media/image_zpsec3e06b5.jpg.html
  21. My apologies rob for being so opportunistic sounding! Are you a numismatic historian, dealer..? I must say I am fascinated with the provincial mints of Charles and the civil war coins in general. I've got a few siege pieces, Newark nine pence and pontefract shilling are almost as struck... I could look at them all day and have!
  22. Well with that sort of press about your coin Rob, who wouldn't want that lovely coin!! Time to sell?!!
  23. Found it! But no cabinet find story.... Goldberg Sale 48, Lot 2507 http://images.goldbergauctions.com/php/lot_auc.php?site=1&sale=48&lot=2507〈=1
  24. I too read the story and questioned the use of wax. A superb cojn! As stated It's commonly thought to be used for impressions for past auctions which always sounded plausible to me. I've got a few coins with minute traces of red wax - better have another look...
  25. Agreed. A bit like watching a new movie trailer that has all the best scenes in the movie. The rest is disappointing..
