Does anyone know whether it is possible to embed a 'direct link' to pics on One Drive (was SkyDrive) into posts on this Forum? i.e. the kind of link where the photo appears in the post without readers having to click anywhere. I am hoping so, because uploading to OneDrive is so much quicker and easier than Photobucket, or similar free online photo hosting sites I have tried. Google searches haven't revealed the answer so far ...

Welcome along Fletch! I would echo others' comments, and add that you might want to grab one of these 1970 proof sets from eBay. You can normally pick them up from an auction for around a tenner delivered, tremendous value for what they are I think, and will help get you acquainted with pre-decimal Liz II coinage: link

Hi Arthur Welcome to this great forum! One type you may wish to consider are Conder tokens, issued in the late 18th century ... I find each one to be a very interesting and affordable piece of British history. They are mainly halfpennies, and can often be bought for £5-£10 in lower grades (certainly up to VF). Yes, I agree with you. I don't really collect decimals myself (apart from a representative collection of proof sets and BU sets), but there's no arguing that that 1983 2p is THE major modern rarity, unless the aquatics 50p rivals it for numbers. So you won't find snobbery here about it. Having said that, if you asked me if I'd rather have the 1983 2p or a really high grade William III halfcrown, I'd go with the halfcrown every time No contest for me neither, just a no-brainer!

I went to visit Downies in Melbourne when I happened to be there on business, showed them the fake Northumberland shilling they had auctioned and they proved to be worse than ignorant about it (examined it in hand and declared it as genuine simply because it wasn't a high enough grade to be a fake!). Their shop sold only modern tat, I wasn't at all impressed, but to be fair they did arrange a full refund when I had it rejected by CGS A reality check is overdue for them (a comment that might apply to other traditional auction houses too, as has been noted!).

In keeping with the post a few above, I don't think they can release the mintages until after the end of the calendar year. Whilst they might know in advance for the commemorative crap marketed to the masses, a regular currency piece's mintage will depend on the demand from the banks for coin. If they don't order it, the Mint doesn't produce it.Yes, i still find it odd though. We've known these mintage figures for a while so why wait until now? Surely the banks don't ask the Mint for Kew Gardens 50p's (for example) do they? I would have thought they would just ask for 50p's, then the Mint can decide whether to produce/send regular coins or commemorative ones?

The London Coin co was selling BU examples at £24 earlier today (as reported in the Guardian article), they have just re-listed them at £79.95! haha this is quite amusing when even London coin co. get their prices too cheap, fished mine out the coin cabinet and it is listed too There's a bit of a mini frenzy out there, I have just been offered £65 for mine!

And that was just a normal circulated example. The London Coin co was selling BU examples at £24 earlier today (as reported in the Guardian article), they have just re-listed them at £79.95!
