  1. Thanks Peter, I won't be leaving, or giving up collecting, but I do need to raise funds. I will be resisting selling my very best/favourite coins at the heart of my collecting focus.
  2. Thanks Declan! Yes, the old 'Thursday = 10 days 'til Sunday week' check is the best! It's painful but I need to 'downsize' quite significantly!
  3. Thanks Stuart, I just wish I could enlist you (or better still, Brandon! - no offense!) in photographing my coins, none of my pics do them justice, and I do try very hard!
  4. This was a 'test' forum until earlier this evening, the nonsense from earlier might tail off soon!
  5. Circumstances dictate that I must sell part of my collection, those coins that I am selling through eBay auctions are listed here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/starling69/m.html?item=201030249069&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 I hope there is some interest, please bid generously! Note - I trust I haven't broken any Forum rules posting this link here, I realise that many members permanently have coins for sale on their own web sites or on eBay, on which I have sold many myself in the past. But this is a significant decision for me, and I think there will be some coins of interest to members
  6. As you can see Rich, we love a good debate about grading/desirability, these sorts of posts are always welcome! Have you come closer to deciding what you initial focus will be?
  7. I think Chris and the Admins are 'administrating' this evening Rob, merging some forums, creating new ones, etc, that may be all it is?
  8. I know next to nothing about these so my coat is within easy reach, but is it possible that Heaton and/or Kings Norton processes/raw materials were different?
  9. I agree about the eye appeal, but I think you're very harsh with your grading. I think it's at LEAST VF. Perhaps GF is a tad harsh, it is early milled after all, but I really couldn't bring myself to give it more than nVF, it just has too much overall wear for me! But.. but.. there is very little on the reverse! Britannia's left t*t is the obvious wear, but look at the shield, olive branch, trident, and "SOHO" - hardly any wear at all. It's true, there are areas that are GVF, and areas that are barely better than F, I guess I am not comfortable with 'averaging' these out and tend to err on the low side!
  10. (How strange - I posted a reply but it's not showing!!) Ah I see, silly me to assume your Goodies lyric was completely random!

  12. Okay, this one then: There's nothing wrong with it as an apparently problem-free F-GF example (IMO), if it was £10-£15 ... but it's £32.49 delivered, for which you should be able to do considerably better, with a little patience. For me it's a little 'lifeless' and has no eye appeal.
  13. They all sound like good suggestions to me, seconded!
  14. While you guys are about it, why don't you create a Forum / Sub-forum for TPG discussion? Stuart would be especially happy!
  15. I'm sure you left out a 'do' there Peck
  16. Mary had a little lamb
  17. Clearly a mistake IMO
  18. I would agree, there is nothing particularly 'wrong' with it, other than possibly having been cleaned at some stage, it has a nice rim, and no obvious damage (edge knocks, digs, gouges, etc). It's just that it is very worn, and once you own some higher grade coins it is difficult to find the lower grade ones attractive, particularly those that are fairly easy to obtain (depending, of course, on budget!) For reference, here is the same coin in EF:
  19. That coin is the 2013 Birth of Prince George proof 5 pound. That coin cost $130 at issue, plus $30-40 for submission/grading. While I still don't think it's worth the $329 asking price, it's a far cry from $450 for a coin that can be had for $30. Also, that "import fees" part of eBay is a complete farce. The shipping in the US is free from that seller, and eBay is likely making a killing on these types of coins when they add this "import charge" to them. This (among other reasons) is why I never sell on eBay outside the 50 US states. 51, surely, or have we left? If we have, someone better tell Starbucks, McDonalds, and Subway I don't get whatever joke you're trying to make. I suspect Peck is satirically referring to the UK as the 51st state ...
  20. Acc. I started a couple of them for you! LOL! Shiller!
  21. It may be a common coin raw but the number slabbed will be limited so if you only buy slabs you are pretty limited and a high grade is going to cost. So some slab collectors are incapable of buying an raw UNC coin from a reputable dealer and getting it slabbed themselves? Or is the notion of buying a raw coin simply out of the question/incomprehensible to them?
  22. If you are after opinions on price and grade, my opinion would be overpriced and nVF-VF. I would not expect to pay more than £15 for this common coin in that condition, and if I was building a George III collection I would personally want one in a strong problem-free EF in the £40-£50 range, but that depends upon one's budget, of course! Here's one in a stronger grade (in my opinion) that I picked up from eBay for £24 a few months ago. They come up quite often.
  23. I cannot afford to strive for perfection in all my coins, for me the overall eye appeal of this coin combined with the price I paid ticks all the boxes, there is always a trade off. As someone recently commented on this Forum (Coinery perhaps?), if one's budget was unlimited how much enjoyment would there be in hunting down examples that 'do it for you', within your budget? (rhetorical!) The easiest (and in some case cheapest) thing to do for many of my milled silver would be to opt for a FDC proof example of each type (where available), but that would be too boring for me, and I prefer the notion of coins minted for circulation, each to their own! I like a bit of variety when pouring over my collection.
