Never, although I have only 6 year's experience. But for such a common issue that is enough to tell me this isn't the real deal. I have trauled through many many dealers' websites, and auctions, and eBay, on a daily basis, you don't see those this side of the pond. It's like sticking a decent conker in vinegar and then in the oven, you will win a few battles but will be found out eventually.

For a decent one with a Common mintmark, maybe £50-£100 depending on grade/age/region of South,America, rarer types will obviously cost more Realey? (see what I did there!) - I would have thought more like £250 in a strong Fine (if you're lucky) and up and up from there! (for a George 3 emergency issue I mean!) Were they your own coins P & TG? Very nice if they were! Not mine sadly Stuart, haven't quite decided to do about all those G3 emergency issue and B of E coins yet!

The submitter could well be the TPGC itself? You know how CGS love to rattle out those mint state 1967 pennies! That's very true Stuart! I have a very too trusting nature and tend to take things at face value too much! Both London Coins and The London Coin Company churn out slabbed 'Cameo' 'Early Strikes' and the like by the hundred as soon as they can obtain them from whatever mint!

I believe they were 8 Reales from Spain and Spanish owned South American countries, as used for emergency coinage for George III and over-stamped with our king's head. Equivalent to roughly 5 shillings or a crown, but varied slightly with the value of silver. Like this one:

I am just wondering what 'pretend' process the TPG must be going through to 'authenticate' it and 'grade' it! What are the terms of reference?? All seems very meaningless to me, but as long as the submitter is happy ... !

Not selling it, it's a keeper! Posted as a guide for Neil (and anyone else) to look out for a similar block WW to go with my scipt WW, and as an example of a well struck REV! I am selling my low-mid grade coins (almost everything below VF, can't stand the sight of them any more!), duplicates, and anything that doesn't fit with my ESC type focus ...

On the other hand, while I wouldn't pay £424 either, there is a phenomenal difference in scarcity between VF (or sub-EF) examples, and genuine EF or better. My own example (MUST upgrade!) is definitely sub-EF : 1836 halfc obv.jpg Interestingly I have had more high grade block capitals in the last 10 years than high grade script and Spink claims block is rarer!! Just thought I would share that although maybe irrelevant ;-) I hope you will be offering high grade block WWs for less than their equivalent in script then Neil? Obverse isn't even EF, reverse is better though.Cleaned/dipped perhaps also I wouldn't grade either side as EF, tons of wear in the centre of the reverse ...

On a non-CGS basis, right? Do you mean removed from slab before despatched?! I am certainly not expecting any premium from forum members just because some of my coins are slabbed, you lot know better! No, I meant at non-CGS slab prices!! That's what I meant too, all my coins are sold on raw merit, the few that have passed through CGS hands will have a little extra authenticity provenance and that is all! The prices CGS attach to the coins they slab are usually Spink or above, and could be used for insurance purposes ... but I have seen them exceeded on eBay!
