  1. i think hes not scottish at all....ive a feeling hes french and is trying to say
  2. i wondered where you were going with this until i scrolled down.............how i laughed when i did. i did that. this was his reply...... Books are the seed of world education. It's immaterial the subject. Frankly, the society we are rounded for, it had people for whom literature passed by, and then create a forum where they find likeable souls. Coins as such, bring a major interesting point of looking back, and sometimes they ignore the reason to un-quivalent determination to rise options for their condition (grade). However, nothing have been taken to create a singularity opinion and establish a decisive situation that another soul need to be told how wrong, but leave theirs right. I bring back some received member correspondence to activate that the coin above would be compared with another coin of different date, though and on the book (you disliked!), I quote ..."three coins were struck on dies of same type (above) coining presses at Edinburgh " unquote... with different prices through three grades, and a single with a mark "E". Finally, who had printed prices and choose each grade?. Surely not you, on 18th Century! Regards.
  3. he does spout complete bollox.....its just fantastic how everyone else can be soooooo wrong in his opinion......we all make mistakes from time to time, but this guys cornered the market.........and people are buying his coins im just amazed hes been a dealer for 50 years and survived..................
  4. his reply to me was that grading is not an exact science and hes guided by a 1912 spinks catalogue. also questioned wether i knew more than spinks did in 1912........
  5. his reply makes as much sense as his grading ive written him inviting him to come here and learn some
  6. now i do like double florins........for all you dealers thats struggling to sell......im in the market for a roman1 proof
  7. i only have 1 example.......selling it wont be a problem for me............ my son on the other hand may have when he inherits it..........serves him right for being younger, fitter and better looking than me
  8. i didnt know that............why so?
  9. my annual check up is not due until december but i like the coin......so is the considered opinion here that its been retooled/enhanced ????.
  10. wow, advanced applejockinese for "and thanks in advance" i also think a nicely detailed gvf
  11. a vast improvement.....the coin is clearly more detailed than the original pics showed. maybe a little more light on the subject and a larger sized image would further improve youre image. ski.
  12. i can vouch for the expert advice here, ive learnt much here......while your away learning about your camera, remember the stunning coin photos here....theres good people here who can help you improve with the humblest of cameras. ski
  13. i think the replies offered here have been good, people have stated its difficult to grade from the pics, if help is needed in getting better pics and so enabling better valuations....... there are some brilliant photos on here that make grading easy.....take advantage and ask all sorts of questions
  14. dream on........
  15. ah okay ...thanks. ski
  16. there are other dots, 1 on the shoulder/neck and one on the chest......why would the 2 under the i of brit make you think its a fake? have these 2 dots appeared on known fakes? ski
  17. the 1902 florin's location is also a concern for me......i dont think i would be buying it
  18. to me the nine looks okay but have to agree the counterstamp looks poor, i believe the counterstamps are graded different to the host coin so i guess its possible to have a poor counterstamp on a good coin. are you thinking that the coin has been counterstamped (poorly) to make it something it isnt?
  19. yuk......please please lets talk about the book
  20. yes and the fifth edition is now 20 years old ( out of date)
  21. hi peck.......its in my copy of the book which is a 1992 5th edition. ski
  22. have to confess i bought 2 sets on the bay a couple of years ago......my records show i paid 75p for the 2.....i suspect i may have paid more in postage
  23. this was the unc set i was thinking of......sorry i got the date wrong, didnt wish to mislead http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GREAT-BRITAIN-FIRST-DECIMAL-COIN-SET-UNC-IN-FOLDER-1-/221086908584?pt=UK_Coins_BritishDecimal_RL&hash=item3379ce80a8 ski
  24. there are plenty of '53 sets around either in mint plastic envelopes or hard cases.....ive seen plenty of 1966/67/decimal sets in hard cases.........im not sure of their origin though, maybe royal mint, maybe not. peters coins has some http://home2.btconnect.com/petercoins.com0/ click on unc sets ski
  25. i think the '53 set was a first for the mint..... the 1970 blue wallet set was in my opinion the grandfather of what is now a well established line of tat produced by the RM. picking up the odd unc piece here and there allows you to choose your additions better than a set with some compromises may. ski
