  1. Shit, mine has just melted, just the bloody wrapper left
  2. Counterfeit ring busted in the UK. Police said the coins minted were better then the RMs http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-22612487
  3. Well bugger me with a rotating cactus I thought the low estimate was high. Wonder what fruitcake bought those
  4. Terrible OBV Picture, but for a reason i would think
  5. Just to put you off more. Chinese fakes have been known in TPG slabs, in fact, one was found last week on the USA ebay site by a seller who was told it was fake and because it was in a TPG holder (NGC i think it was) he just basically shrugged his shoulders and said "so, it's in a graded holder, so no comeback on me" so there you go, your Money, your risk
  6. Thanks gents, kinda though more of early strikes than proofs, always good to get opinions though. Another in the bündle, nicht schlecht. LXI edge
  7. The 2nd is a double florin 1887. Again, it Displays proof like Features, but both may be early strikes. The double Florin has a Little wear
  8. Got a bit of silver and These 2 coins seem proof, just wanting to make sure one way or the other. 1st is a Haöfcrown 1887, the REV is mirror like but not quite captured with the camera and the large rims normally associated with proofs
  9. I'm off for a week but it's also nice weather and have been out metal detecting, trying to get a spade into the ground is nearly impossible. Hope they won't mind me bringing a JCB next time to help me dig with
  10. Thanks for that Richard, did'nt think to check the archieves dohhhhh. Anyway, the 1st one in that list seems to represent the one i have. Hopefully the Price will be the same to
  11. Bought a Job lot of coins in a case from auction and this one was inside. Its a 1/4 Kopek dated 1899. Looking through Krause all have a crown above the H type design, but this one has a small crown with a small design either side of it, i thought perhaps proof issue but can't see that either. Any help would be appreciated. Oh and p.s, the normal "click to attach files" function button does'nt seem to work
  12. No. 3 is better than No. 2 in my humble opinion. I would give 3 the VF50 and 2 the VF45 Check the wear on Annes shoulder
  13. 1 VF55 2VF50 3VF45 4VF35 5VF25 6EF65 7EF70
  14. But who's going to want to pay that sort of money for over 2700 of the same coin? Not Quite a rarity is it
  15. I'd suggest not to buy any 1890 farthings now, market is about to be flooded http://www.the-saler...searchitem=true
  16. You did'nt Miss anything. Mr Blyth is another Mr Platt on the same scale, IE, he likes to encourage bidding until it gets to a Point his greed is happy with
  17. Well & truly and I'm very grateful for all your input. Shows how a novice can be fleeced I suppose. But that's why I asked.... John Argentum asks why would I want it? Because it's what I like/collect/am interested in - why else? As you say - each to his own. Anything wrong with that? I don't collect proof or pattern Soho types or Moore patterns or even Victorian pennies so why should I look for one just because you think I should? I can't be happier with something that doesn't float my boat. I just saw this (so called) 1963 proof and as it's relevant to what interests me and what I collect, I thought I'd enquire about it. And also why I asked my peers - because I wanted to know if I was doing the right thing or not and as it turns out, (obviously) not. So mission accomplished for me. Anyway, an FYI for all, this is the dealer concerned. http://stores.ebay.c...d=p4634.c0.m322 Nothing wrong with that. It's just that a proof should stand out. Rarity alone is not relevant in this case, as the example you are looking at doesn't look any different from a currency specimen. As for that dealer - over £1000 for a GEF 1797 penny ... !! All the American Dealers take Spink and Krause as their Prices, here's another for you http://www.ebay.co.u...=item35c90b5f67
  18. Sorry but thats not a proof strike for me either. If there's only 2-5 known it would and should look Highly polished after only a Maximum of 5 coins struck. After being in business 65 years he still won't know everything. Ask him what the distinctions are between the proof and currency as you cannot Tell personally. Should'nt he be retired after 65 years, he should consider it as his eyesight has gone, he Must be pushing 90 years old if thats the case
  19. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh i'm back in
  20. It is potentially a concern but scams like this are not so easy to run. Firstly, there are 2 graders for each coin and you need at least a partner in crime. Also it might be difficult for the rouge grader to ensure that those coins get to him and not another grader not in the scam. You get people in all trades and professions worldwide committing fraud and abusing their positions and we can only hope they get caught sooner or later. Absolutely right that one should buy the coin and not the holder! Sword, you know this from where? we're talking about American/Chinese TPGs and not CGS, so where's your info coming from dude?
  21. Ok, just my tuppence worth. ANYTHING with the words CHINA, COIN and TPG; geezus, the whole TPG is a fecking joke now in my eyes......Lets not Forget that NGC HAVE slabbed fakes of UK COINS, Need we say more. Stay away from coins slabbed by American TPGs as they obviously know fook all
  22. £200 IS a very fair offer, i'd give the coin good EF as the hair Detail is not fully struck, so in my opinion £200 is quite good. Bear in mind, if it were to auction on ebay and made the same, you'd lose £20 straight away for ebay fees bringing the total down to £180 and if were paid by PayPal it would reduce further by 3.5% on the £200so, you'd lose around £27 if it sold on ebay for 200 quid. Oh and FFS, don't mention the words clean and coins in the same sentence
  23. Oh yes. I followed his other eBay name, he had 20 Gold coins on and 1 bidder who i know because that bidder bought from me, that bidder had bidded on and was winning 12 of his lots to the tune of £5500. As soon as i'd listed and shared it on here every Single auction had gone within 30 mins that the bidder was winning but left the BINs. He definately reads these boards, how else would he have known to take the shilled coins off lol
  24. Beware of the shill bidding if bidding
  25. You'll never find all of the People agreeing about grading, some are stricter, others not, it's what Appeals to you and also your pocket. the 1st i'd say was F/GF, 2nd AVF and 3rd VF (best of the 3) If you find coins that you're maybe unsure of because of the Price, then just post an Image before purchase, you'll get many takers when asking about grade, cos we do like to argue debate about grades
