Yes and this particular fool now wants me to cancel the coin in which he made his initial offer on which i accepted. I told him i was'nt going to do his legwork and that he should cancel if he wished. I'll give him his 4 days then start the dispute so he can get a non payment strike against his name A small pleasure i shall have from this fools time wasting

Unfortunately Stuart, ebay has many weird and wonderful characters, some of which i think have been on some of Peters puff. I had one last night make an offer on a coin, i Duly accepted then he made another offer on another coin which i Duly countered. He then emails to say that his first offer was based on the proviso that i also accept his Second which was £150 less than what it's listed at. He seemed to Take offence at my Counter offer and said "it was his last offer and hope we could see a way forward" which i Duly turned down. I wish i could buy coins at what these ebayers want to buy them for....... P.s, it was'nt me who bought it even though i had mentioned it too you, i'm still holding fire for something, dunno what though right now, but i'm not rushing.

Funny you quote this guy. He is one of the most skeazy and unrespected dealers in the USA market. Maybe your opinions of him and his thoughts will change when viewing his website, with laughable asking prices (look at this one which SOLD!!!: http://www.randicoins.com/store/pc/SOLD-1948-P-FRANKLIN-NGC-MS-68-STAR-FBL-6p1147.htm). That coin is a crazy example of AT and shame on both seller and buyer (the latter with more money than sense). Nevertheless, on that particular video the man DOES talk sense. What is the slightest bit controversial or unreasonable about (1) buying the coin not the slab or number, and (2) pointing out inconsistencies in grading due to damage inflicted before slabbing that hadn't yet shown up during the slabbing process? Is the video taken at face value controversial or unreasonable? No, not at all! But, there is also nothing profound or novel about it. Knowing who Rick Tomaska is, I see the video as nothing more than his normal drivel encouraging people to buy only the supposed "one of a kind" coins that he has in his inventory. Or phrased another way, his way of trying to justify the absolutely absurd asking prices of many of the coins in his inventory. I don't need a greasy haired "car-salesman-type" dealer to tell me what to look for in a coin. Especially a dealer whose entire business model is to fleece people for coins that are over-hyped and often unsightly. That was my point -- I found it rather ironic that the poster-child for someone who was "speaking truth" was someone of such ill-repute as this. YOU saw that, based on prior knowledge. I didn't see it at all - I saw a commonsense tutorial on buying coins that, despite not being 'profound or novel', seems to be a lesson that some of your countrymen still need to learn. What i quoted was his youtube Video where he states "buy the coin not the grade" i think you'll just always try and take a little stab at whatever i say. I's be interested to know of Sheldon said anything about eye appeal and colour when Adding the grade or of it was purely down to wear on the coin as to what number was assigned

Here is the ÜCGS grading video. What you may find here is at around 2m 13s is how they'll assign a grade and that the would include lustre, quality of toning and eye appeal which SHOULD not in my opinion have anything to do with a grade or wear of a coin. Anyooooo here it is

I's love to see how the American TPGs grade coins in General, dös it have wear yes/no seems to be the answer with a final grade inbetween those two answers

Your EF example is rather conservatively graded IMO Rob, but the point is well made. Ok, so we call it good EF. AU can be broadly considered the same, just named differently. Where is the similarity in wear? Mine has slight wear to the high points on both sides. The slabbed coin has slight relief to the flan.I would have called the slabbed ebay coin VF and i don't get paid to grade it either

What? That emoticon means I'm just watching the "show"...watching everyone get their feathers ruffled by the (incessant and recurring) TPG argument. That's all. Probably due to the inconsistancies of said TPGs. Personally what Ruffles my feathers is what happens when the coins are slabbed and the unrealistic prices asked on ebay and auction houses. I know i should'nt get involved because its not my money i'm wasting, perhaps its the TPGs who need educating as well as the collectors/fools that keep buying into these slab numbers. Just my opinion........

Just don't buy from Heritage, as Rob said and what i also think, they are just a marketing machine Scaring the life out of Investors and their money, everything too them is slab number orientated. Lets not forget, they send most of the RAW coins they receive to NGC and its in NGCs interest to put a nice number on the slab. Then of course we have the slab number buyers. These people are all in for a nasty shock sooner or later I can't agree with you Dave. I've been very careful (their fantastic photos help) and bought half a dozen coins through Heritage in the last year. I've been really pleased with every one of them. On one ocassion I made a mistake and actually bought the wrong coin (and also the one I really wanted). Although it was entirely my fault, they held onto the coin and placed it in the next sale for me, commission-free and I ended up with a small profit! A big business with slick marketing yes, but also great photos, lovely catalogues, top class IT and (in my limited experience) good customer service. Now tell me Spink are better? I think you may have misunderstood AC. I meant, just don't buy if you don't know your coins. Its obvious that a majority of buyers are buying into the slab number and not the coin inside or else they would have far more coins left unsold. As has been pointed out already, they grading is suspect of named collections and rarer coins

If you gentlemen read my post from page one of the thread, Ismail the exact same thing regarding buying decent grade coins.

I emailed the seller. He says its something ebay started and he oüted in as it was easier when posting. I Pointed out that the UKs duty was only 5% and asked how ebay could just use 1 flat charge when various countries have different duty. My assumption is that ebay will pay the individual tax levied and keep the rest thus making them even more f***+%g profit, robbing Bar stewards

To be honest Rob, had i been charged duty from an American seller i would have told him to cancel the transaction

Ebay now seem to be doing as they please. I thought all costs had to be visible, yet they say Price will be confirmed at checkout. Makes you wonder why this one 181304709876 does'nt have Import tax.
