The Lord Clive, a British Navy warship, was sunk by the Spanish off the coast of South America, in 1763, whilst attempting to retake the former British colony of Colonia del Sacramento (Uruguay) after it was seized by the Spanish. Treasure hunter, Ruben Collado is hoping to discover around £1 billion in gold bullion, when the wreck is raised in March. He could be entitled to half of any treasure found. He has wanted to raise the wreck for many years, but has only recently been given the green light to do so, late last year.
The wreck is located 380 yards from the coast, and 16 foot underwater. The Spanish buried it under rocks to stop it floating to the surface. A large team will be involved in the salvage operation, costing an estimated £4 million.
It'll be very interesting to see exactly what's uncovered, and who has the rights to the other half.
