  1. I stopped collecting sovereigns years ago because they were just too small, don't see farthings as an option. I've just about finished 1895 to 1936 in true BU, ok a few gaps, I just don't see the point of starting something I can't finish with the bun head series.... All East Anglian beer is muck, Derek, trust me and heaped upon that shame must be added the fact that they have no decent rugby teams. You must be going to the wrong pubs....IPA is in my veins.I also enjoy Abbot Ruddles County & Adnams offerings A few non E Anglian beers appeal like Taylors Landlord,Pedigree,Tanglefoot etc. Rugby at grass roots level also thrives We also don't like strangers.
  2. Looks like bitcoin is a gonner....if someone who has been following this can summarise past the hacking bit and explain what these boys are getting so worked up about
  3. Lichtenstein too. The French however have the best National Anthem by a country mile. Ou est le papier,ou est le papier,Monsieur, monsieur,j'at fait manure....ou est le papier.
  4. What makes you think it is a forgery?....probably 2 dies have been used with slightly different wear.
  5. Good for you, 400! I spent 9 hours down a trench looking for a mains water leak, so I'm a lot scruffier than any posing pop star, and... I hope your trench was securely shored. Did you try divineing rods? ...I found it! This is nearly 5 feet below ground level !

    DIY disaster

She is aware of the "premier" coins and even had plans for making me a t-shirt featuring one of my beauties...I discovered her plan and suggested a pillow case instead...I'm still waiting and having to make do with my Ipswich one. My penny collection was left in the dusty room so I will have to get out my brasso to buff em up. and thanks John for your excellent offer...that was 10 pounds of 22ct wasn't it ?....I would consider silver if I could select about 20 coins to keep as a memento
  7. We are currently redecorating the lounge, dining room and hall (including replacing flooring)hence the house is full of dust and also furniture in strange places. My coins were to be moved from one of the rooms to sanctuary in the study. My wife offered to do this. Next I hear a shreek and a sound not disimilar to the sound of trays of coins falling down the stairs and the flutter of coin tickets. Luckily they were only my farthings & 3ds aaaaaaggghhhh.....I reckon this is going to take all summer to sort out....My wife and the dog have been absent from my thrown slipper range ever since.
  8. I have bought a few coins from him and I'm fully aware of his grading practices. Bearing this in mind I have been more than happy with my purchases.
  9. As Bob says...its free. I might use it ....but who looks at pricing books for more than a guide & the coins I want I already know how much I'm willing to pay (and most varieties don't appear in price books).
  10. Nice work Rob...always interesting. Have you an aquaintence called Watson and are you an occasional user of cocaine?
  11. I think you have got it cracked....nice pictures & coin
  12. Plenty of A480's online (ie argos just over £80) However it gets slated on batteries and its viewfinder.
  13. Its a specialised area of which our US buddies seem keaner on....maybe its because the "coins" are over 200 years old of which they have very little.
  14. I think Rob has explained it is unlikely to be of value. The copper coins of this period were in shortage and the copper often worth more than the coin....hence there are numerous counterfeits in existance (slightly smaller, thinner and lighter)...many circulated and were readily accepted (like fake £1 coins today). Keep your eyes peeled and the next coin maybe a guineau.
  15. Nice thrupenny bits Miss Jesus.
  16. I believe the WR stands for Westaire Reproductions.
  17. Not a lot it would seem. According to the description it's "the withdrawn" type. The Pope would approve though! I don't think he would rubber stamp it though.
  18. Welcome to the forum Forna A sensible series to collect and a welcome departure from the 1d boys who thrust their wares upon us. Your coin indeed has eye appeal and I would grade at NEF/EF. The eye appeal is important to me...there are plenty of EF's without it. George 1111 is also a fairly easy series to obtain...if you haven't already seen it try aboutfarthings which is an excellent resource run by one of this forums members (Colin)...he will probably snipe you on Ebay at some time...or I will.
  19. Spot on grading Just proves the punters out there have no idea....a polished NF. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1900-Victoria-Old-Widow-Head-adamcoinsgb-EF-/260781101273?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3cb7c3d0d9
  20. I just bought one of these off the bay for £6 delivered (from a mint bag) bearing in mind there was only 10,000 minted compared to 200,000 mule 20p's get in now Against my better judgement this will hopefully return a nice profit to buy something...predecimal Please everyone leak this to the press.
  21. If your album will take 2x2 flips problem solved. I use these for the majority of my coins (although I have 4 linder trays and 14 other types of tray...10 in aluminium cases ) Linder capsules with inserts would cost me more than an Oxford shilling.
  22. Its an extremely poor example of a 1863 bun penny and of negligable value. Back to work tomorrow I'm afraid.
  23. Mine hasn't appeared yet and the ones I have got I want to keep.
  24. Hi Unc. 46,49,50 & 51 are the hardest 3d's. The rest should be fairly easy in EF+ Take anything F+ on the above 4 but don't pay over the odds for a circulated one (maybe a few £) Good luck...its a sensible series to whet your collecting fix.
  25. not to mention a quite hideous number of JPEG artefacts all over those pictures Az. My apologies Peck, best i could do with the dealers gallery pictures, plus i enlarged them for some of the older farts of the forum who might be losing their sight Thank you young whippersnapper
