I'm not a modern coin collector...I use to keep an eye out for the undated 20p's and during the Olympics 50p's were circulating I sold them as I found them and made a good return on them.....and saw them reduce in price as time moved on....However today The 2025 King Charles III Bees Β£1 coin was in my small change....now its claimed to be currently the rarest circulating uk Β£1 coin, with only 170,000 entering circulation.......Is this true or just hype ? I see them on ebay for silly money but not wanting to get caught up with this game....

Wreath Crown - Horrible Discolouration
Citizen H replied to Coys55's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
a small test area on the outer edge may be an option before hitting of either of sides .... may be ethanol just a thought please see below π Ethanol can clean silver, but it is important to use it cautiously. Isopropyl alcohol can help remove light tarnish and grease, but it may damage certain finishes. Pure ethanol is generally considered safe for silver, but avoid using denatured alcohol or those with additives. Prolonged exposure to alcohol can lead to subtle changes in silver's surface properties, so it's best to use it sparingly. For optimal cleaning, consider using 70% rubbing alcohol or an alcohol-based cleaner, ensuring no harmful additives are present. Always test on a small area first to prevent any potential damage. -
.....its actually as the coin is.... if you take a look at the ruler the measurement is clear... a blurry coin with little to go on....its truly rubbed, washed and being only about 10mm in size..I was well impressed that www.HistoricCoinage.com was able help out. ππ

well......these are ones that have been picked up years ago....I'm still working through boxes, what's to keep, what's to rehome... etc, I don't have this date and so.... I end up moving the coins on the page so they remain in date order.... its a real challenge wondering how many spaces to leave between coins just in case another one turns up....... π Why? do I put my self through this????

1 Shilling - George II Young bust..... I do recall reading that during a reign coins often became worn due to their frequent use and circulation. was this the case with with George II that the coin become so bad such as this one ? Admittedly the reverse isn't so bad so ..... this has the next question.... how would this be graded?
-
Awesome...I really thought it was truly rubbed to oblivion .......thank you very much for the input its really helpful. π

Many thanks, I've spotted a typo, its meant to read 1996 not "the 1692 looks .......wonky ?" its been a long day......π₯±π€

to me its looks mis shaped, most of my milled coins are more circular, with this one I would appreciate any opinions the 1692 looks .......wonky ? would this have been turned out this way or happened through circulation?
-
??? its odd how these have found there way to me, The hammered ones that I picked up over the years and not realizing that they were from all over the world..... this is a Hungary Denier - Ferdinand II I think its 1622...but not being an expert so stand to be corrected if wrong π

1849 1 Florin - Victoria 1st portrait; 'Godless' type
Citizen H replied to Citizen H's topic in Free for all
I did note that its a degree smaller than the other florins that I have in the set... I did throw me for awhile but Diameter 28 mm is correct. unlike the others at Diameter 28.50 mm π -
a early Florin minted only for 1848-1849... unfortunately its not in the best of condition, rubbed with a gash π I did read some of these have smaller numbers... I take it this is the large numbers ?

Charles II (1st bust) 1 Crown How would you grade this?
Citizen H replied to Citizen H's topic in Free for all
Many Thanks for the input, during the early days when I joined the forum I asked about values but now realise establishing what I have and its condition / grade is more important... Its really appreciated that more experienced collectors are helping out as I work through my hoard... this will be a keep. π -
So the reason of asking is if a coin is rare its condition goes by the side a little... this crown although its seen circulation is in quite good condition.... details are legible and minor rubbing... where would this Crown sit on the grade scale?
-
on looking through the pages ...I do have a 1840 Groat and others with duplicatesπ² ...looks quite good as well. π
-
wow....so its wrong font...Awesome to know this.. it looked odd so now all explained. many thanks for thisπ

Today more sorting out and I found a shilling its dated 1857, on magnifying it highlighted that the numbers were different sizes the 7 has a few blobs deformation to it as well ... possibly done at the mint with numbers changed as worn out?

looking at the Half penny's that I have , like yours the details are still very vivid also being silver you'd think that they'd been cashed in melted down and re used ... Ive found 5 Halves that I have ...as yet no quarters, Hopefully others will join in, it will be of interest.... π

Four Pence Victorian 1840 & 1877 (Maundy) Delving through the hoard today...... and these two I though were worth a show as they are in incredible condition.... which is a bit of a rarity amongst my lot.... π²

in take of breath........ So looking through everything and believe that this is a Henry VII Penny, York Mint 1485-1500 Weight 0.5 obverse side completely rubbed the reverse side shows keys below the shield... so York Mint. so is it by chance Spink 2235 ? possibly rare? I have also found it to be called a "sovereign penny" but unsure if this is correct.
