Today whilst re sifting through them destine to be sold I had a moment of "Hold On!" ( I tend to do this, a lot, I just feel that I can quite easily miss something important😕) However this one caught my eye and so I washed the crud off, the Florin now reveals a ledge on the reverse, wow! now I do like a fault. a die press error? well it made my day, Have a great Weekend ☺️

Found another quite good condition coin from the hoard..... albeit 2 pence Maundy, George IIII, 1822, 😕 not sure I can cope with all of these good condition coins after a life time of manky worn out ones.... 😕

die numbers and their associations do interest me also, Shillings (being sliver) and nice weight coin size, most of the Victorians I have are heavily worn / circulated, with the introduction with some dates with die number adds to (my) enjoyment / interest and swells the collection / hoard..... 🤔 at one time Victorian penny's weren't of interest / value, time moves on (and over everything) so its possible the Die No's coins will come into their own...one day.....Just a thought.

Ah yes... double florins produced by the Royal Mint from 1887 to 1890, coinciding with Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It was one of the shortest-lived coin denominations, struck only for four years. 👍

I had a chat the other day about these things..... payment on phones and plastic cards....by 2030 all coins are obsolete....black market etc still use coins... old silver / gold coins come into own and put back into service...could this be why I started hoarding 30 odd years ago? 🤔 always good to have a plan B,....C,D,E...etc etc etc....

🤔 this one looks like its been used 🤣 £50.66 in scrap prices value....I did read that mintage was 256 000, proofs 15 000, I did just read that Years GV 1927-1936 Generally struck late in the year according to demand and intended to be purchased as Christmas gifts, they did not circulate well, due to the low mintage. Proofs for all dates exist but are extremely rare, with no known mintage figures, as they were for V.I.P issue. This coin was not included in demonetization legislation when decimalization was introduced in 1971. It has been confirmed by the Royal Mint that the coin remains legal tender, having been remonetized with a value of 25 pence........all good stuff 👍

many Thanks, I was surprised to find it and I did look it up, I didn't realise Edward VII only had the one Crown Coin, its been tempting to wash it.....for now I've managed to resist the temptation.... all the very best "H" 👍

As I work through the Hoard rather than start a new topic I thought Id ask the same question, Edward the VII only had one Crown coin...this one Ive not cleaned / washed, left well alone, the tarnish is patchy and its seen some circulation knocks to the edges, grade wise where would this sit?

another cupboard sort out found these coin holders hiding, looking at my tags I bought theses in 2023, put away and forgotten about..........., I bought these from a local fair and was included with 3 silver vesta cases, thought id show these as they are coin related, Ive always thought that they were sovereign holders both hallmarked for 1911, 👍

I guess seeing some of these for the first time its a rarity, working through my hoard and seeing double stamped and clashes for the first time I get this feeling "Wow Ive found a rarity!" ........moving on I've calmed with education.... Still is is great to see these and find them... 👍

thinking more about Maundy coins, I recall being offered a boxed set..... I was awake that morning at silly o'clock trudging around a field looking at one stop away from the local refuse site....It was something like the box was dated 1906 and all the coins inside were 1907....a marriage me thinks...I now see these on Ebay with the declaration of being uncirculated, genuine etc etc etc !?!?! to be honest I gave up as I have so much to work through and need to get this in a order, I did fill the gap In Grandads 3 Pence's and my upgrade ones that are really worn out...I held on to the really early Victorians as these although worn out they seem to be quite a rare thing to come by..... 🤔

another dip into the hoard.... I have taken a long look at Rod Blunts pages at the crowns.... this leads me to think it may be Edward I, 11a-11c 1310-1314 .....? it weighs 1.3 grms slim face... Civi Tas is readable ...as a assumption it could be Lon Don that follows...?

2 Pence Queen Anne 1710 William IV 1834 I got wondering, as these don't seem to have been minted in high numbers..... so need to ask are these considered to be rarities ?

Aethelstan (924-939) Æthelred II (978-1016) now these are going to be rarities......... I think the earliest Hammered Penny I have is a John 1204 ish

As Paddy mentions... circulated coins can benefit with a long soak in warm soapy water...a ultra fine/soft tooth brush will remove a multitude of crud and hand grime.... rinse off with fresh cold water.... I tend to let them air dry rather than rub them,,,, it works well for me 👍

Today another delve into the box of Hammered Coins in need of identification it weighs 1.1 grm I'm still struggling with the Edwards... Rod Blunt has a very good page that show a list of pictures of the different crowns that has lead me to thinking that its a Edward I, 2b, 1279 I also need to ask how has the Cross indent occurred on the observe side... overly bashed when minting? ...........

interesting....a random guess,,, could it be by chance Western Ganga Dynasty? 1 Fanam... this would be gold....a ultra rare coin if correct , seeing the other side would be beneficial. 👍

today I took another chance rummage in the box of hammered coins, I chose to show this one as I'm pretty sure this is correct. It weighs 0.9 Grms I believe with the two Pellets that makes it to be a Half Groat. m.m. is a Bell 1582-3 could it be I could be right ???
