  1. Remarkable how much value a little plastic can add to a coin... link
  2. Wasn't there a signficiant auction of British gold coins in Japan not too many years ago?
  3. And equally can't spell - note "luster" for "lustre" Blimey, even at the quoted 'aUNC' his asking price is a tad on the high side! In some parts of the world -- that is the correct spelling
  4. Is there a doctor in the house? link
  5. Are these edge variations really significant enough to warrant requiring an example of each to consider your collection complete? I honestly don't think so.
  6. Yes. And how are the mighty fallen : sold for well over £9k by Colin Cooke in 2008, and only £4k in the London auction.. My mistake -- my mind was on farthings The CC coin does not appear to be the same one that sold in the London Coins sale.
  7. Here is a link to one that sold last year in a London Coins Sale link
  8. Those defending it will be those who have most to lose, the very people who doctor the coins and sell them on at vastly inflated prices----IMO Many of the ones defending these 'toned' coins are those who collect them and they are in for very rude awakening.
  9. For anyone who might be interested... link
  10. Let's see -- an 1893-S encapsulated silver dollar with a CC mintmark on the reverse with multiple examples available from mainland China. I wonder how much it is really worth
  11. Even with the 25K loss, the seller was fortunate. Cannot say the same for the buyer.
  12. Reserve has been posted at $200K ($235K with commission)... link
  13. I've submitted my bids already but I notice that when you click on "Bid Live" it pops up with: "This facility will be made available on the day of the auction." Promising, but I'd ring them today to be sure - 020 7016 1700. Based on their prior sales, that is exactly the case -- live bidding is only available on the day(s) of the sale.
  14. link
  15. After reading what you have written on the subject of currency vs proof wreath crowns, I think you are probably being too modest,
  16. One seller's trio of "EXTREMELY RARE PROOFS"... First Second Third
  17. I used to think 34 was old. Now I know better. Have a great birthday!
  18. If any of you ever frequent US coin forums you'll very quickly see that a number of collectors are paying huge premiums often many multiples of market price for attractively toned coins and goodness help anyone who might suggest to them that these coins have had some help in getting that way.
  19. "...given in change in a london nightclub in 1950. nearly causing a riot at the time, prior to 1950 I know nothing about it." link
  20. 8 million pound link
  21. No dealer or collector for that matter is perfect, but I've had nothing but good experiences when buying coins from CC before and after Colin's passing.
  22. In the watch list....... fingers crossed Oh shucks it isn't a farthing, I was looking forward to bidding as well It isn't 1807 either, the date being on the coin is always a good clue I do like it though, I think it may well be the bronzed proof and well worth the BIN price, sorry I meant well worth throwing in the BIN. This must be what is sometimes referred to as an impaired proof.
  23. Here is the information available on wiki on the seven known examples (including the one which was stolen): link An undocumented example of a 1933 penny made headlines a couple of years ago when it was offered for sale on ebay and then withdrawn. Unless someone knows otherwise it was never authenticated.
