  1. Oh, and if you did fancy doing this .. here's how! (Though the guy who wrote it used US pennies. You'd need to adjust for farthings) http://jproe.wordpress.com/2012/09/09/how-i-spent-four-days-of-my-vacation-or-do-you-have-11966-pennies-that-you-dont-know-what-to-do-with/
  2. Sort them. Keep the best of the bunch. Have the next five best slabbed by NGC or PNGS and sell through someone like Heritage. And the rest ...
  3. They reckon £5 each? But how long would it take you to sell the things?
  4. Mmm .. consistent with the sorts of prices he has on his website I guess ....
  5. The link is corrupted. Amended ebay link And, I've no idea. Maybe because it's slabbed and Americans like that sort of thing. Though there are 3 others at that grade and 3 at MS66, so not really rare, is it?
  6. Good learning experience Chris. Personally I'd stick to UK based dealers who have better photographs, but that's just me. And for reference, this is an Austrlian 1963 Proof penny, showing the sort of quality I'd expect and that people pay the extra for. I couldn't find a British one, but you hopefully get the idea.
  7. Online dealers are fairly simple, though you pay for the simplicity via the price they offer. These people offer better prices than I was able to find at high street 'gold dealers'. However, that said I've never used them, although I believe another member here has: hattongardenmetals.com Obviously you'd want to check how their prices compare against spot and I don't know how it works with silver that isn't Brittania or sterling standard.
  8. You should be able to view recent charges Colin. In your Ebay summary page click on the 'Account' tab. You then need to click on 'Fees'. You may need to then click on 'Customise view'! This allows you to view up to four months ebay charges. You should then get an itemised list a bit like this: With luck you should then be able to work out what you're being charged for. Note that this is only ebay fees and doesn't include PayPal!
  9. I don't think it's entirely fixed as I seem to get logged out every now and then. Something that never used to happen before. OK, I can now log in, which is something. But before all the changes I stayed logged in!
  10. There were problems with a new server I believe: http://www.british-coins.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8053&st=0&gopid=87573&
  11. I've only just got in. Chris mentioned on Facebook (which might be a handy place for people to 'meet' if ever the site is down again) the hosts had moved the site onto another server. Whether that caused the problems, or was to resolve some, I don't know. But I'm glad we're back! I'm also glad I haven't just signed into a phishing scam. The new address confused me for a minute. At least seeing you lot I know that I shan't be the only one on this botnet.
  12. You know.. I think it might be! OK, it probably wasn't brilliant before it was .. er, improved. But even so .. And it's a bit pricey for an "engraved" coin, or I'd suggest it to Debbie. But as a piece of art brut ... well, it might be worth the money! Assuming you can't afford this:
  13. Really, not a laugh. In fact it's so horrible a crying 'smiley' is needed. But I just had to post this. The moral being .. don't let your children play with your coins people! 200937301895
  14. Interestingly I was wondering about a variant of this just yesterday. Buy an MS65 and say an MS67 coin. Find yourself a slab, re-encapsulate the MS65 with the MS67 labels. Resubmit the MS67 raw for re-slabbing. If you can find some of those nice green CAC beans to add ... ... let the money roll in. Which is my way of saying that this whole slabbing thing, like anything else, is only a good idea until someone thinks of a way of using it to rip people off.
  15. Welcome Ben! I thought you might get a more detailed answer about your penny here. Though a sharper photo would help the price estimates I think. I hope you find it interesting. I know I'm always learning. And .. had you thought of asking if you could have a coin as your commission (or part of)? This penny could be a nice start to a collection of Victorian bronze? Tom
  16. Ironic? Sad more like. I (probably like others here) bought a few times from the circular and was (am) happy with my purchases. I liked the little red boxes they sent the coins in too! But last time I looked there were stamps and medals. But coins? No. Then the website got so crap I couldn't use it any more and I've given up. Coupled with my no longer subscribing to the SNC, it's not terribly likely I shall be buying from them again in the near future. Can it really all be because Paul Dawson was unwell? Whatever the reason, it's a sad comedown I think.
  17. Right after the word piefort stops being used. Double thick pies? Yum! Gosh. How times have changed. I get that with my Skoda. 1.4l TSI. Nice little engine.
  18. See. I feel sorry for you guys with your expensive cars. I like my Skoda. You know where you are with a Skoda. O - £1 in under 3 seconds.
  19. I've removed your email address just for your privacy Ako. While you need to register to post here, some of the forum can be viewed by non-members. You might not want your details visible to anyone that visits! If you want to send a message (which is more private) to any member just click on the icon of the little envelope under their name. If you put in your email when you registered, any messages sent to you will be forwarded from forum members to you without them needing your address. If not, I believe you can read them here on the forum, where they show up top right corner of the page, near your name.
  20. Bottle of Old Peculier and a Toblerone here! And now we're going to all sit down and watch Sherlock together.
  21. Well holy Invisible Pink Unicorns there's obviously been a leak! First rule of Numismatic Research Group is "Don't talk about Numismatic Research Group" Apart from the fact that it's supposed to be invisible! Anyway. While we figure that out I just need a routine retinal scan for our files; please look into the light ...
  22. LOL Welcome back Hello. Haven't seen you for a while!
  23. LOL Chris set it up to garner views and comments prior to updating Collectors Coins GB and the other Rotographic titles. Not sure what you guys can see. But as a subtitle it says "The forum for brainstorming and editorial comment regarding the forthcoming new Rotographic books, published by me. This group is only visible to the members I have given permission. No one else. " Darn. I can't remember if I'm supposed to kill you now, or just get you to sign the Official Secrets Act. Oh, well. Just promise you won't tell anyone else, OK?
  24. Personally I find it odd that tin is still used, given the pest problem. Makes Eddy look like the zombie King!
