  1. I use a refreshingly simple system- I bid what I feel is my maximum when I see the listing. The last minute bid to be 'clever' bores me - I have a very full busy life and I don't need to turn an auction into a mind game with strangers. 'Snipe' - 'Stealer' - what do those names convey? There you go.
  2. If you are in a city, you may find that traffic pollution, particularly nitrogen compounds, are in fact having the biggest effect on silver....
  3. Transfer to small dipping bowls. Garnish with chopped parsley and dill. Serves 4-6 people.
  4. I only have experience of toning bronze, but an important factor must be common to silver, namely that of temperature. I have a lamp that's on a lot, with a compact fluorescent lamp in it, mounted base down. If you slide a penny that someone has 'cleaned' in between the glass coils, it's supported by its edges, and sits at a nice temperature, and re-toning is surprisingly fast, and even on both sides of the coin. Acetone first is a good idea.
  5. Met them on the Kennet and Avon years ago- charming people.
  6. My father's side of the family are still in Kitchener, Ontario. In 1916 they held a referendum to change the township's name to that from....Berlin.....
  7. I know- I have two very similar, and I need the cash- massive spending on our village hall is looming......
  8. More going on over next few days- some may be of interest... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385395223630?hash=item59bb586c4e:g:BAcAAOSwXUJj3~Lu
  9. That's how I run my workshop. My accountant has managed to arrange for me to get tax relief on the slippers!
  10. ...I meant ...that is a face, and not an arse?
  11. Hang on...are you all saying that this is his _face_ ????
  12. ...'Comment of the Month' .....excellent!
  13. I think the BBC Pips should be released back into the wild....
  14. Just had the pips on FM, Apple laptop time, and Junghans radio controlled clock all agree. Ebay is a 24hr clock version of pacific Time.
  15. I have many examples of strange things going on in this area, with the die suffering damage, causing extra dots on the reverse, in this exact area.
  16. Some coin collectors have been collecting rubbish for just as long.....:-)
  17. Speechless...? I am too - didn't even spot it!
  18. This is what I'm thinking, propagation delay plus digital latency. Processing takes time- digital's Achilles Heel.
  19. Pips on FM and time on MacBook the same, as far as I can see. Online BBC pips miles out- still amusing how slow digital is.
  20. Touché the Battery Boy--- maybe a new avant garde twist?
  21. Touché. Second time this year, Mike- it's getting to be a habit.....
  22. And, if you're old enough, Torchy the Battery Boy
  23. You know, sometimes, just sometimes, I could slough off all the crap that comes with being an older person nowadays, and just go back to the simpler times when the tales of the wonderful Noggin the Nog was all you wanted....or needed..... Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin really knew what they were doing....extraordinary people.....
