  1. HENRI ON CANT who only operated at Canterbury in 6b,c,d & 7a,b,c according to North. It isn't a 6b, so Henry III. Wrong style lettering for 6c & d. So class 7. Wrong portrait for 7a. Wrong beard for 7b except for 7bD, but here no flat topped A. So class 7bD or 7cA by my reckoning. If you exclude the flat topped A criteria, then 7bD would be a better fit than 7cA as it looks coarser than the Canterbury 7cA in North.

  2. In a separate unrelated email, copied to myself, Michael Gouby writes: "In 1806 to 1861 100’s of dies had the legend letters and numerals re-punched so as to keep the die going. An entire book could be filled if one were to record every minor off-set letter or numeral re-punch of that period. It neither add nor detracts value from the coin and are not recorded for that reason". I don't collect such occurrences myself but, if it gets more people interested in the subject, am happy that people share their examples.

  3. I thought it sensible, as many experienced members on the forum have seen huge numbers of repairs over the years, to have a separate "help with repairs topic." It seems to be a niche interest, possibly because there are so many different examples. But on the plus side, they are affordable and gives a learning opportunity for amateurs like me. I thought I'd kick off with what I think is a circulated 1860 D+d penny ? where I think we have a T next to T in Britt ? followed by a T over something maybe an I ? (On a more worn example the T next to T would look like a wide slightly off centre downstroke) For anyone interested it would be great to get your thoughts and maybe see examples from your collection

  4. Magnificent work, thanks so much!! 👏 Yes I can see that moneyer name clearly now, a big clue of course is the similarity of the moneyer's name to the king's name, should really have noticed that! 😯 Thanks for the precise sub-class classification as well, I would've just been happy with designating the main class but you went a few steps further! Kind regards, Joe
