Hi all, Just for the record, I managed to get an independent ID of the attached from personnel working with the PAS database, where I've since recorded it. They identified it as a Henry III cut halfpenny, probably a class 5(c?), possibly minted by Gilbert in Canterbury. Date probably c1253-6 Obverse: Kings head facing, probably with sceptre in right hand. HENRICVS REX III around. Note that legend starts immediately above sceptre at about 10 o'clock. N & R in HENRICVS are also ligated (joined together). Personally, I still can't decipher anything much of the reverse legend but, if correctly identified, should be something like GILBERT ON CANT or similar. Hope of some help! Best regards, James

Hi there, I am new to this forum. Im enquiring on behalf of my step father whom has a collection of limited edition proof pure gold coins of significant value, he is now well into retirement and would like to sell these coins in order to free up some capital In order to make the most of his retirement. He had a company come to value the coins however would only offer him the spot price for the weight of the gold (around 15,000 pounds), however we believe them to be worth considerably more as they are limited edition in perfect condition and never been touched and we have all the boxes and authenticity paperwork still. The List of the coins are as follows, PCGS-graded 2016 '5-Portraits 90th Birthday' 1oz Proof Limited Edition Longest Reigning Monarch Proof Sovereign Set of 3 (2g, 4g, 8g) PCGS-graded '5-Portraits' 1oz Proof Satin Finish Limited Edition PCGS-graded 'Remembrance Poppy' 1oz Proof Gold Limited Edition PCGS graded 2006 American Buffalo $50 MS70 PCGS graded 2015 Proof Sovereign £1 'Long Reign' Special Edition PCGS-graded 2015 Kangaroo MS70 PCGS-graded 2015 Philharmonic MS69 Coronation Twin Set - Set of 2 x Proof Full Sovereigns Would anyone be able to provide me with some advise on where would be the best place to sell these coins please? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Jake

Many thanks, that would be brilliant…very forward thinking of you to save the images 🙂 The coin is an 1899 Sixpence. Excellent, thank you 🙏

That's a fairly long die crack. I imagine the obverse die would be used for multiple years until it's too damaged. But the reverse die has the date and so needs to be replaced each year.

Very poignant and caught me out for some reason. I’m 60 next year and been reflecting a lot upon the last 40, so maybe something to do with that?

hahahahhahhhahhhhahahhahahahahh 🤣 🙏 errrmmmmm !?!?!? its been a lifetime of uneducated purchases pre computer, condition wasn't high on my list of priorities...now having the time work through The Hoard some good have turned up...mind you 80% ? is pretty poor condition...but Hey! its been an adventure and wont be getting the time to go back and try again... to be fair looking at the pages in a loose date order they look pretty impressive ....just dont look to closely at them... I'm not thinking it will be ever worth a kings ransom, but finding the odd gem as I go through these is a treat, Thankyou one and all👍

I see he has revised the description to ‘not validated’ . I suspect others have offered their own ‘validations’. Jerry

over the year Ive been sifting through my coins and put Colonial Coins in another bag to sort out at a later date and create some organisation .... I have checked and found that most are .925 silver so at the very least scrap.... However...some of these seem to be quite scarce... The 1887 Canada, 10 cents, Mintage 350 000 The 1891 British Guiana and West Indies, Fourpence, Mintage 336 000 The 1918 Australia, Threepence, Mintage 3 119 000...... ok so not a rarity... the Victorian Colonial coins of this lot are the scarcer and as the page of the ones I own is growing its a becoming real eye opener...👍

Help with Double Reverse Short Cross Cut Halfpenny

The coin has flipped and rotated slightly during striking which has made the legend quite messy. Based on the letter M which you thought was a H I'd say it's Henry III. Probably class 7b. Mint signature ends in a T followed by a stop so i think its it's either Canterbury or Bury St Edmunds. Moneyer is either Simvn or Simvnd I'd say. - Last week

Hi, I just received this curious piece in a lot of cut pennies I bought. I think I can make out the legend SH ON W on the first side. But this could also be LSH ON W. I am not entirely sure. Couldn't find any moneyer + mint combination in my literature that matched this so was wondering if anyone could give me a hand? I am hoping to narrow down this one as much as I can. Thanks for your help.

Thank heaven the vendor confirms that it is genuine, not a replica! I rest assured 😄. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/198243354927?_skw=hammered&itmmeta=01KN2QEJGWGHJW8JGVRHXGCNZK&hash=item2e2839892f:g:EjYAAeSwwP5pzBu5&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA8GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xCdMdsLZrzlKxQyLy1byZLX53r1elvuJN%2FF39HjSTeEV6eWM8XGXpL0nqXXF2nnpzem946gkjE36Mqqfd%2FcS%2FY04ocGPDJeJHJTgnZZRWylpSn3UcChX1ZfxgnWVN0cucnA4xdSNuaHzpYUrwuRDjrkDQveuTwjgPZTedsF7la4rPTS5YtWSWqxbPAxvxFqI824RBtL8fvyDZrLL5rlJgQl%2FHSHTi3ISEmZV2bPtZ5l17h3SfKg%2BBD9rdJz%2Fx44Kdm9o0hbtItqnP5YB%2FWs3MuUlSAXLUKm7Xq9x5WiQnvyig%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR4aputeoZw Jerry

Come back Dr Larry, all is forgiven! -
Thanks I did have a look, I just found this coin. Its hard to say with the image quality what actually is there could be anything. In my image the coin on the left is from LCA and the coin on the right is the one I just found, I drew some lines to show the position roughly. I also added an image of the coin seperately. its 0.99 buy it now plus shipping. I know the lines I have drawn are not perfect but it doesnt quite match up with the example on the left.
