There is a fraudulent offering of a "B over R" 1862 penny at the moment. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/358547749431?itmmeta=01KRG4XN5S967RPZAG8EF2K7GD&hash=item537b1c7a37:g:mUMAAeSwCctqAxfH&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA4GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xCEj7UbS%2FkFL8LDJtuLTQHr3hpjLEvYYVZ4LPosIgK58gPQm0wFsm5SIH4%2FYc%2Fm3KzMzAr%2BCqamt8G32zS5M6CEK%2FITx7LQOAkoMlg49ysMbtic31fuTUU%2BZulzkJsDbnyK%2BYPq%2BNazlScLTY8625dwwpf2AacCsPg25EqEbMCjXFUZihzMgOFXwYHkKojAojng%2B9ty8LH2z4CsCHk0JdpcWeD%2BNmmp%2FxpoTonNA0Xaex8A4%2FLk7w5X46fuXN7YHCQVc3GMrJgQ3X3YPTGxjf44|tkp%3ABk9SR5bT9oTEZw

Chris Perkins replied to SilverAge3's topic in Coin Publications Forum
Great. A few weeks ago another that I sent to the USA was returned to me, no reason given. So I'm now a bit nervous sending to the USA. I've emailed you a PDF of the Irish book. -
Actually got mine early last week. Cool book and it's good to have that reference. Have you worked out anything about the Irish book? Thanks!

Good pictures, nice coin. It will tone well on a sunny windowsill , turned from time to time . Jerry -

The light striations in the obverse fields indicate it might well have been wiped or cleaned in the past. As for polishing - is the mirror finish only in the fields but not the raised design (difficult to tell from those pictures)? If yes, then not polished, but if shiny all over then it most likely has been. -
His last name wasn't Kuryakin by any chance?

Tks Rob I'd like to see the picture if you can find it

Very interesting—thanks a lot for the reply and the link, Jerry. I’ve had a read and I’m going to follow up on a few new leads. I’ll update when I find out more

In one of the current CNG auctions (E609), a couple of Edward VI fine silver items (lots 962 and 963) are catalogued as ‘Dalzell & Bianchi type 4’. Does anyone recognize this reference. Both are the Tower mint and both have the tun mint mark.

Thanks, that's amazing information, now I just have to leave it for a few decades to get some nice toning. -

Hi Jerry, I was trying to show the mirror type reflection with the first picture. Also, it's definitely the genuine article 28.24 grams, specific gravity is bang on and sounds/rings like all my others. Cheers, Nigel -
1951 Crown- Type I and Type II reverse
safi replied to coinkat's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
Hi guys I know this is an old thread, but would like to continue it with what I believe is some new info, if its not for here then please move it to a more appropriate thread. I have 4 1951 crowns, 2 standard and 2 cameo, one of the standard and 2 of the cameos have type 2 I believe, but the other standard might be a new type 1, please correct me if I am wrong ,maybe I have it the wrong way round. The type 1 on my standard has features you don't get on the others. There is a double rein on the horses neck, the strata under the dragon has clear lines , more muscle definition on the horse and dragon, the horses tail is further from the teeth and more gaps at the end and more hair near the rump, the spear handle seems more fractured is this a new variant or not, please advise, I appreciate any insight. -

The double plume 1887 crown represents about 5% of the population. It is recorded and mentioned in a paper submitted to BNS blog but not yet published. Several of them were in The Thorburn Collection sold by Sovereign Rarities 23rd. Sep. 2025. notably lot 81 -

Try to take some clear photos of both sides of the coin, it’s difficult to comment on the images you give. There are some very good Chinese replicas available now and looking at the finish we need to rule those out first. Doubling in the strike would be a possibility, if we are dealing with the genuine article. Jerry -
Hmm. Interesting. Lloyd Bennett once showed me something that looked genuine, but had not previously been recorded. The correct weight and size for a Confederate 2d, if it existed. Can't find the picture atm, but must have it somewhere.

The name Ilya might be a known person on the other side of the pond, whose moniker was highqualitylowprice or something like that. That was an eastern European showman (Romanian?) who was a world renowned expert in numismatics apparently. Numismatic bullshittery maybe, but nowt else. The sort of guy who would offer a 1967 penny for a thousand dollars, but agree to sell it to you for a 99% discount - FYI, still a rip off. Someone from that side will know who I mean and perhaps post a link to a sale of his?

What Mick said, a very common pewter copy of an Elizabeth Threepence.

Hi, I'm a new here, but I love old coins, and my favourite of them all is the St George and the Dragon Crown Coin designed by Benedetto Pistrucci . I picked one up the other day that looks a bit weird to me, it is in good shape but has clearly been cleaned/polished in the past , but it's so much nicer than all the others I have. However it appears to have a mirror like finish and the helmet tassels all appear doubled, and the cloak edge and parts around his neck also have very fine double edges. I'll post some pictures that try to show it. Is it just a particularly good strike?

Thank you for clearing that up. It's much appreciated

Its a cast museum reproduction ..That mark is on all this type of repro coins. I believe it is Dorchester reproductions that make them /made them.
