bobbydazzler Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Hi guys how would I grade this coin please as I was told by a dealer this was a 'F' condition. Quote
Peckris Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I know diddleysquat about hammered, but even I can see that's a whole lot better than F - I'd say VF myself, what do you think fellas? Quote
Paulus Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) Welcome to the forum BD! Was the dealer buying or selling? Not too adept at grading hammered but I would say it's better than Fine (F), maybe nVF, and nice and round with eye appeal (for me).Is it yours? Edited September 11, 2014 by Paulus Quote
bobbydazzler Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 he offered me £200 said I might get £300 at auction even though I told him what coin it was and how rare he said you never get the book price, so I put on the bay and people are asking what grade it is thats why I asked tbh I thought it was a lot better than 'F' thanks guys appreciate the advice Quote

Between 33% (hard to shift trash) up to 90+% (very high value item for which there's a known customer). Quote
Rob Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) Why are people asking what grade it is? If they don't know what they are looking at, it's a recipe for disaster. That's why WRL etc replicas sell for thousands. Do you have a link to it? Edited September 11, 2014 by Rob Quote
Paulus Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) This is the little chap I believe:link Edited September 11, 2014 by Paulus Quote
Nicholas Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Fine, a little crimped, nice portrait Quote
TomGoodheart Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Better on the reverse. And better than the others I understand. gF for me. I could see a dealer call the reverse nVF. Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 That's an aVF in my book and worth far more than £300... Quote
Colin G. Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Not a bad example. I'd have it.Me too, very nice...in my watch list!! Quote
Paulus Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 All of which should mean your eBay auction goes well BD, good luck with it! Quote
Coinery Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 You just don't see these little fellas looking quite as balanced as this, the grade's irrelevant with that kind of eye-appeal IMHO! Quote
Peter Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I like it and Newcastle is a difficult one. Quote
bobbydazzler Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Thanks a lot really appreciate your comments and I do understand that dealers need to make a living but theres a line between a fair price an being taken for a ride glad I did a bit of research now and just hope it does reasonably well on eBay. just wish the pictures did it justice. Rob Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I couldn't believe that figure, given it was obviously dug and slightly bent. Difficult coin to find, but even so has to be taken in perspective. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Well done! Now, if you can find me some rare Charles I shillings ... Quote
Colin G. Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Great result, think you would struggle to find better....sadly went out of my range Quote
