Do you think AU with old highspots overtoned, or genuine UNC? I'm looking particularly at the reverse St George, harp breasts, ribbons, etc. and thinking AU???What say you?Worth looking at 'other items' too! Quote

For example he has a simply gorgeous 1806 penny : priced as a Proof; looks like a Proof; but strangely not described as a Proof. Certainly their prices are reasonable Quote

Coinery Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) I do think the quality to be above the usual offerings seen on eBay...a number of which could be described as having collectors tone!Whilst I have a better Liz martlet groat, I thought the price of the one offered was really good value. There are some cheek friction points and other bag handling stigma. Honestly I would skip it.It does serve the counterpoint to all those specimens mercilessly dipped. Seen entirely too much of that - _ohn _elsh famous for it but even _ark _assmu__en on occasion…. Quote

azda Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) I think the toning of it would put be me off, a little too dark, although saying that, you then know its not been dipped. I also noticed the rubbing on the George and Dragon between the date but if you Look at a couple of others he has, they also have rubbing in the same spot. The Crowns' will be financially interesting! However, I can still keep a slow interest with the cheaper denominations. Poor old farthings and Maundy here we come!
