Paulus Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Obverse pictures to the left (according to D&H). No idea what the greeny patch is, possibly weird toning? Doesn't look to be anything to worry about though ... 1 Quote
copper123 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 NICE COPPER 1821 TONED FOR THOOSE WHO PREFER A COIN WITH NO LUSTRE 1 Quote
Michael-Roo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 A decent 1821 (I'm always pleased when someone posts farthings!) but in circulation the lustre soon disappears anyway, so I wouldn't expect to see any on yours. A toned, uncirculated, example would be nice to see if anyone here has one. Quote
Rob Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) Done on a scanner so drained of colour, but wonderfully iridescent in the hand. Must look for a camera image. Edited February 27, 2016 by Rob 1 Quote
bhx7 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) Lovely coin Rob. I have a few nice farthings, will dig them out and take some pics! Edited February 27, 2016 by bhx7 Quote
copper123 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I will not post the obverse as that beauty above is much better than mine anyway Quote
Michael-Roo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Lovely Rob. My 1821 isn't as good as that but I do have a rather nice 1827 which also displays iridescent toning. 1 Quote
Michael-Roo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Yes, nice when they get a bit of colour on them, aren't they. Keep the farthings coming Coppers! Quote
Peter Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Can we have our own thread for the wonderful farthing/halfpennies ? Lovely examples Gents. Quote
Michael-Roo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Hi Peter. David did begin a halfpenny thread a little while ago but there's not much going on there. If you were to start up something for the mighty farthing I'd certainly be willing to contribute. Quote
copper123 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Picked this up a couple of months ago rare , in fine or so grade for issue but light damage Still very nice though Quote
copper123 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 All three 1721 varieties 1721, 1721. and 1721/0 2 Quote
copper123 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Harder to find than you might think in this grade Quote

I've always liked the George I farthings, they're tidy little gems. I don't have the 1 over 0 but do have the normal issue and a nice example of the scarce stop after date variety (pictured). Quote
copper123 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 The 1721/0 is not very clear on the picture above but if you get an eyeglass out its certainly that variety - it took me an age to get a cheap one as they rarely come up for sale so when they do there is a big demand for them esp if fine or better . I would say your stop after date is certainly around NVF , but I also find these coins hard to grade perhaps better to just say its much better than normally found. It is certainly a £60 or £70 coin to an avid farthing collector , could even get £100 Quote
Charlie Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 A nice example of a 1843 Half farthing. 1 Quote
Michael-Roo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Nice bit of residual lustre showing there too Charlie. 1 Quote
Michael-Roo Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Here's one for the tin fanciers. James II farthings are pretty scarce in any grade. This is one of three I have. 1685. Quote
