Nordle11 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Nothing special, but I've decided to branch out from pennies slightly...I've gone for something that looks good but doesn't cost a fortune! It's also a short date range so a lot easier than the good old 1d.Nice. Always check for the E/N in REGINA on them - they do go unnoticed Thanks for the tip Declan! Quote
Nordle11 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 but pennies...I know, I know. That's why I chose half-farthings, there isn't many and they're also inexpensive (so I can spend most of my time/money on pennies)! My profile pic is my obverse of a 1902 Quote
TomGoodheart Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I received my 5 Centimes today. Haven't had a chance to photograph it, so I've had to edit the original images. In the hand it's a really nice chocolatey brown which I suspect won't come across properly, despite my tweaking. Anyway I am very happy with it! 1 Quote

scott Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 yup, Alphee Dubois, not that rare but a nice design.but the Halfpenny is rare, it is clear why when you know Quote
Peckris Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 yup, Alphee Dubois, not that rare but a nice design.but the Halfpenny is rare, it is clear why when you know No stops on obverse? That would make it 1695 if you could only make out the date. Quote
scott Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 no, that is impossible the reverse is type 3. Quote
Peckris Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 no, that is impossible the reverse is type 3.Oh yes of course it is. That would make it 1699 or 1700 'no stops on obverse'. Quote
Peckris Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Well there only appears to be one N in BRITANNIA (all barred A's by the way), but that's because the coin is so worn between 11 and 12 o'clock that if there was an N it could have worn right away. Quote
Peckris Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Then I'll have to give up. It's bedtime. I'll see the answer tomorrow. Quote
Rob Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Then I'll have to give up. It's bedtime. I'll see the answer tomorrow. It's a mule of the first obverse and last reverse. http://www.colincooke.com/coinpages/nicholson_part2.html Item 116 refers Quote
scott Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) as i said, it is simple, it is obverse 1, not obverse 2, Obverse 2 being the one used on the the ones with date in legend, there is one on colin cookes collection page.only 2 known... getting familliar...got it off ebay a fair few months back, LISTED as the mule as well, wasn't expensive.just put this hereand a farthing 1679. Nice spot. There's more than two known. I've got 4 on the list which I haven't updated for 5 or 6 years and I'm certain I've seen at least two more, one coming out of Baldwin's basement. Peck only noting 2 doesn't mean anything other than he knew of two that he came across when compiling his book. Peck's obverses 1 & 2 are the same. I've got Nicholson 116 which isn't wonderful, but you struggle to find much better. There are at least two obverse and two reverse dies used for this variety. Edited March 26, 2014 by Rob Quote
brg5658 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 A new 1790 Conder (provincial) halfpenny token. Interesting clash on the obverse around the date, and the detail of the engraving is just stunning. I also love the toning on the reverse of the token, lovely hints of original red and some mellowing. I'm also attaching a close up image of some of the obverse detail of the reclining shepherd. Quote
Paulus Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Very interesting! And a well dressed shepherd! Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Wonderful token and great photography, Quote
