azda Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) Wow did'nt realise he was followed. I'm assuming he stopped for a Break somewhere and his Car robbed, is that correct?Still, a scary situation that someone is actually following you with the intention to rob. This has to be a rob to order job surely Edited October 12, 2013 by azda Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 This has to be a rob to order job surelyPotentially. Or someone just sees you in the market and decides to follow you home waiting for an easy opportunity. A shame. Quote
NRP Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 There have been a number of robberies a few have happened in Birmingham, I am sure Dave craddock was followed home he is local to Birmingham, 3 assailants robbed him and actually sprayed him with pepper spray!! I am sure that is correct - this is why I always check whether I am being followed - fortunately it is a fair distance back to Manchester and the speed I drive I think I would be fairly confident if I was being followed!!! Still u can't be too cautious!!! Quote
NRP Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Usually in Birmingham and larger shows it is the dealers with a large quantity of gold that are targeted!!! Quote
azda Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Problem is, if the Word spreads, which i'm sure it will, it may potentially have a knock on effect for stalls at coins fairs Quote

I just can't get over the fact he left the stock unattended in the car though?I've always hated transporting my own coins around, because even stopping to pick up a pint of milk at the garage has me ladened like a mule to do so! The number of occasions where we've (my wife and I) sacrificed doing something together, because the other has to wait patiently in the car with the locks down, is beyond counting!Poor Lloyd though! HistoricCoinage Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 I just can't get over the fact he left the stock unattended in the car though? This is getting banded around a lot but I do not actually think he did. From what I understand he might have actually been present and robbed rather than unattended, but I could be wrong. Quote
NRP Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 True I am not sure he left his vehicle unattended, I will find out the full facts tomorrow at the show tomorrow!! Quote

All the more stressful for Lloyd then!I wonder if it makes it any easier that it was 'just' stock, rather than a carefully compiled private collection? I hope so! Quote
declanwmagee Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Punters too, potentially! I walked around the Midland with a four-figure sum in my satchel...on the way in, anyway!Never even occurred to me. I'm from the countryside, where we keep our car keys in the ignition just so we know where they are... Quote

NRP Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 It seems Lloyd was robbed when he stopped off on his way home, he stopped for a quick pint and seems while he was inside ordering the thieves smashed his back window but strangely his alarm didn't go off and he was only inside for a matter of minutes he drank his pint outside where he could see his car but seems he only realised when he returned. Rumour has it that some thieves can intercept some cars alarms with a device this disabling them. He seemed a little shaken but otherwise ok. Quote

Widows are a favourite because they dont alarm. Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) When did you last buy a pint in a pub.Assuming that's a question, relevant and directed at me, Friday. My comment was originally meant to convey my surprise, in that I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. I'd definitely seek to restore my stock to the bank or safe before going to the pub, but I suppose it depends upon the exact situation at the time. Edited October 14, 2013 by HistoricCoinage Quote
Coinery Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. Nor I! I might possibly buy a pint, but I'd be as burdened as a pack horse when doing so! Quote
Peter Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Call of nature maybe?I don't think I've ever been to a pub by myself or not meeting anyone there.Did the thieves follow Lloyd from the fair?I've always felt safe at the Midlands (I wouldn't relish the tube in London)I have witnessed dealers helping each other to load up stock after fair's.Maybe it is time to think of installing CCTV on vehicles transporting valuable items.I watched an insurance fraud documentary recently which proved these systems worked well. It's something they do largely in Russia, as can be seen with the plethora of Russian car crash compilations on YouTube, and I'm sure would have considerable results in the UK. Quote

It was, maybe rather flippant, a remark about the price of a pint in a pub now days. Quote
Accumulator Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 So, are GaryD and Gary1000 one and the same? I'm confused about that.I got the 'robbed while buying a pint' line (I took it to mean that pints are very expensive these days) but it was easy to read differently under these unfortunate circumstances. GaryD took the opportunity to become the 1000th member a while back and I think uses one id for home, the other the work. Quote
