I've recently sold 3 high grade coins that have been shipped of to Japan. I've never had a Problem with any of the Transactions but curious as to whats Happening. The first was an 1849 Florin, the 2nd was my 1845 crown, but it was'nt until the 3rd yesterday, my 1857 florin, that i started to wonder if These coins are'nt destined for China.

As i said, i never had a Problem with any of the Transactions, all were new ebayers or with a FB score of less than 10. It was yesterdays sale that got me wondering because the buyer in the same month bought 2 1849 Florins, why would he buy 2 if he already had one?

Am i being paranoid about the final Destination, although a slae is a sale etc, but would'nt want to see these coins flooding the British market as it's already a nightmare. I'll be keeping Images of these 3 coins for reference, i also have another high grade florin due to arrive and list shortly, so it will be interesting to see what happens with that.

Any thoughts or similiar from other sellers out there?

I've had a couple of Japanese sales, no problems! I mostly buy 2, 3, 4 of everything, generally, and then shift on the least of them, it's probably quite a common practice with distance buying, especially with the more anal collectors amongst us!

There are probably more Japanese collectors of English than you ight think. Certainly enough for Baldwins to attend the Tokyo coin fair and even back as far as 2004 I was outbid on a tin halfpenny going that way too. They have long collected choice English gold.

I'd be very surprised - there's absolutely no love lost between the Japanese and the Chinese. Even more so than between the English and the Sco Welsh.

Wasn't there a signficiant auction of British gold coins in Japan not too many years ago?

I totally agree Peck, but then do you know the difference between a Japanese and Chinese Name? It was only my thought based on the 3 different buyers having less than a 10 score Feeback on ebay and all relatively new, thats why i found it strange

Well, they certainly appear to have a different collecting "culture" and I know of the one crown collection held by family members as the original collector died. They hold to a price (VERY high) and will not budge, seeming not to care if the coin goes unsold.

I often wonder what impact this has on the market - if, say, a very rare crown comes up that may be one of two or three known but is on offer for 10x catalogue, then what should the catalogue price be after such? Higher, same, or?

Anyway, they have long been attracted to dominant women, so issues of Victoria popular. On a humorous note, some 10-12 years ago, there was a pole amongst Japanese men as to the sexiest woman in the world.

The answer?

Oh, get this..........

Janet Reno!!!! Yikes..

Is it legal to shoot a Welshman in certain border towns?

It is some ancient law that was never repealed about being found within the walls of Chester City isn't it? I think it also stipulates that they must be shot using a bow and arrow.
