I am limited in the different portraits I have seen in the flesh, but my favourite at the moment, is by far the Old Head Victoria. I do not know whether it is because it was my first UNC coin I purchased(thanks John), or the fact that it really does capture my imagination when thinking of the Victorian era. I really like the veil, the necklace, the crown and the medal!

I have always been fascinated by Victorian era history/fiction too, Jack the Ripper and Sweeney Todd for example, so this also adds to my interest.

So, If you could only pick ONE portrait from a British coin, which is your favourite and why? You can post a nice picture if you like! I am sure these preferences change over time, but what rocks your boat at the moment? :)

The Second Portrait of lizzy II :)

Why is that pies... you just like the way it looks?

I personally prefer the current portrait of Lizzy. Hang on a mo... I like the old Victoria, the old Lizzy... I see a pattern emerging! I think I need to see a Doctor :D

That is a beautiful portrait, I have my eye on one of those. I just hope it is not sold when I get the money together! :)

I am rather fond of Elizabeth I (Bust 3C) but, for sheer detail in a small space, I am going to say Elizabeth I (Bust 3H), amazing for a 9mm portrait!

That is a stunning portrait and some brilliant photography. :)

Thanks, Clive! A slow (as in little time to do it) but rewarding project! :)

I've just spent over an hour photographing some Lizzies. Check your emails later tonight.

No pressure on you, Clive, but really 'REALLY' appreciated! ;)

nah i like the 1799 george, i tink it is more how it looks with the legend etc that makes it

i like the high 1806, but not for the ugly bloke, but how it looks and feels.

I'm fond of Victoria's Jubilee head as it looks very regal - Queen and Empress over half the globe. But for a timeless portrait of a monarch you can't beat Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Elizabeth II. Elegant and dignified.

I'm with Peter on this - ok, old mad George may not have been the best subject, but there is something beautifully balanced about portrait. I do like the Vicky Gothic portrait but it comes in a little behind this.

100% agree with you both, I think the G3 copper series is a very pretty run of coins, would make a very eye-appealing collection, I've been tempted myself! I particularly love the chestnut tones that seem to turn up quite regularly with these coins, like nothing I've noticed on any other copper. I think I would try and get the full set in this colour, would look breathtaking I think!

:D very pretty, though, you've got to admit! On this rare occasion, i really do prefer the patchy tones you can get, the rich dark browns and red-chestnut compliment each other really well, you can keep the big lustre coins for this series! Will bear you in mind if I get started on it ;)

It is nice for me to see some new portraits, I have probably browsed some coins of Liz I, but they must of been low grade, as they have not stuck in my mind. Nice photo Coinery!

I will have to take the time to look through the whole of my spink book soon, to see what other designs I can admire.

The Gothic Victoria seems a popular choice, I can see the appeal. I agree that the copper George III is quite attractive, I do also like the portrait on the late 18th Century Guinea of George III too... I want one! :)

I can't make my mind up between Mary, Cromwell, Briot's Charles I or Huth's George V portraits.

That is cheating, you have to pick one! :P
