davidrj Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Anyone else think the 4 in date is over a 6?definite overdate for me, 7 looks rentered too Quote
Colin G. Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Or it could be over a 3 or 5, I suppose 3 may be the sensible option, need to see what the other digits on those looked like Quote
Peckris Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I was going to say 5, but now you mention it, it could be a 3 too. Quote
Nordle11 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) Looks like a 6! Colin might be right about checking what the other digits actually look like. These ones are fairly bog standard though. Edited March 26, 2014 by Nordle11 Quote
azda Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) I'm goimg to go with a 6 because i can see itthrough the centre of the 4 then loops round. The beginnimg of it curves in the opposite direction to be a 3, it starts like a 6 would. The quesrion is, why a 6 in 1740, this is also an unrecorded error as far as i can seeSo, what i was or am trying to say is for it to be a 3 it would have to curve from left to right, but this is curving right to left. just.me Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Anyone else think the 4 in date is over a 6?Is this a Mexican 1/2 Real?Standard Catalogue of World coins lists a 1740/30 KM65 obverse having the MF mintmark. Quote
just.me Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 The 2,4 and 8 Reales also has a 1740/30 overdate. No overdate found on the 1 Real Quote

Given most of these are punched in error, it follows that the punch wasn't checked before use. i.e it could be anything, even just a short straight or curved line punch as opposed to a letter or number. There is no certainty that the digit underneath had to be genuine, or that it had to be valid elsewhere in the series. It does hint of a 6 to my mind. Edited March 26, 2014 by Rob Quote
