azda Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 For the more knowledgable of us. Your opinions please. Pix left in hi res. Its not the best looking coin either Quote
azda Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 And the last, this isn't my coin, it was sent to me by someone. Quote
Peter Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I couldn't live with that.My 1698 farthings are just about OK.Looks to be the real thing Quote
1949threepence Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I saw that coin a few days ago. The vendor asked £3995, and requested an offer. Even without an H I wouldn't pay 4 figures for such a badly worn coin. Can't see any trace of an H, but who knows. I'm not convinced there were ever any London mint pennies that year. There may have been die issues at the Heaton mint, however. Quote
Gary Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I saw it as well. Gouby lists this coin as being Obv. P Rev r. Freeman does not list an 1882 no H. The Obv P does not have the R and I of BRITT touching and REV r should have a flat and not convex shield. Even if these are correct it could still be an altered coin and I would certainly not pay four figures for it. The Gouby value is £500 in Fine condition which this coin is clearly NOT Quote
azda Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 4 grand is quite unrealistic even if confirmed as an without H Quote
1949threepence Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Here's the e bay link Price has dropped by £1k, I'm sure. Quote
DaveG38 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Picture 2I'm not convinced about this one. Looking carefully at the base of each numeral, I can see a shallow depression across them all, which makes me wonder if this has been skillfully altered. In the ebay picture, there's a very clear light line across the numbers which looks very suspicious. Quote
davidrj Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Thoughts on this one ??I make it Obverse R - R&I in BRITT joined, I'm not convincedDavid Quote
RLC35 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 David, It looks ok at a distance, but the Flyer should have added the 20x magnification he said he used, for all to see. Quote

Peckris Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I did an Antonioni on the Enlarged close up, and thought I saw the ghost of the H. So I've outlined it in Photoshop. Quote
Rob Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 It's no coincidence that all the 1882 no H pennies offered also appear to be generally devoid of most detail. What price a no obv. portrait 1882? Quote
