Just re-read a thread here where the broken R in 1905 halfcrowns was discussed, and I think the big boys concluded that a broken R did not necessarily mean the coin was iffy, just that a few known iffy examples had the same flaw.

Just as likely to be a Royal Mint flaw as a 1970s Turkish flaw!

I believe its kosha so am happy at that, the 2 week return is only for safety for me. Will wait for the wiser heads amoungst us.

Not necessarily, largely depends on the dealer and the contract law in their country. I bought a very rare gold one Lira, the dealer offered a no quibble 28 day return, I listed it for sale before it arrived but when it arrived I noticed an edge ding which was not shown in a catalogue. The seller refused the return because I had listed it for sale and the Italian solicitor that I used to start proceedings against him found that he was entitled to as in Italian law by offering an item for sale constituted as me accepting the good which disqualified the no quibble return part of the contract. Luckily I managed to break even on it.

I'm not a wise head, far from it, but you're proposing to 'bed and breakfast' a coin you haven't even seen in hand yet during a dealers return window and you haven't fully decided which medium you are going to use to sell, let alone a buyer ? Then there are known copies in play and you're making promises to your family like that ?

You've always been fast mate, but one can be toooo fast.

Slow down a bit, spend the next 3 months buying books, take up pipe smoking, and breathe....

As i Said 400, if its iffy it fies back, i get my cash back and all is well in the world again, how many opportunities do you get to grab a coin like that?

It looks good and from a dealer, if it turns out iffy then we can always have good pixs as a reference for future, i've always been impulsive and wasn't going to let such a good looking coin Pass by.

My first thought was divided between GVF and NEF.

Are you buying from a reputable dealer, Dave, and may we enquire how much you are paying/have paid for it. Personally, I'd say it was genuine. Looks like real time wear.

Coin was Grades AU, i'm thinking probably American AU rather than the english version, so EF. Dealer is reputable and in Europe, quite Lear the Channel actualy that should give you a good ibdicator which country.

As for price, well for now, 4 figures and personally it does look good to me also, an honest coin As they say and by the Looks of it, it has a nice Gun metal grey to it. In Hand pictures will Be uploaded when the bugger arrives.

Dave, the first thing you must do is weigh it (should be c. 14.14g give or take say, 0.1g). If it comes up short send it straight back.

The odd edge knock and some bag marking detracts a little but there is very little sign of wear.

The first points to show on the reverse are the corners of the shield and they show only the feintest trace, the garter legend is very strong. GVF is a safe assessment for buying but I would think it'll be a little bit better in the hand. Certainly not A UNC though! Never trust a dealer Dave
