A couple of days ago I removed the 'under construction' from the website and it's all systems go from now on. This has really taken forever and I've still got a lot of work to do to optimise the ability of search engines to pick up the site. Incidentally, for penny collectors, I did eventually decide to put my entire collection up for sale, so there's a hell of a lot of stuff on there - not quite a second James Workman, but still worth a look. A couple of questions that I hope somebody can answer;

1) How do I put a permanent link to my website on the bottom of every posting I make?

2) I had hoped to take a regular stall at the Midland Coin Fair. I understand that there might be a waiting list, but tracking down anybody in control of this operation is proving a nightmare! I did eventually find what seemed like a link, but my e-mail elicited no reply whatever. Does anybody know?

In my own interest, I will post this as a separate item elsewhere in the forum. Personally, I don't like the idea of using the forum for anything other than the most subtle of free advertising, so I promise I won't make your lives a misery on that score but I think I've earned one free plug!

Finally, as I mentioned when I started this link, I am quite happy to give a discount to regular forum posters, but as this will depend on how much I paid for each coin, it would be best if you contacted me first to see what is available. The criterion for 'regular poster' that I am using, is nothing more sophisticated than 'having read this particular post'!

Congratulations on getting your website up and running. I will have a good browse later and if anything should take my fancy I will place an order with you.

I believe to add your link to the bottom of each of your posts you need to add it as a signature.

It can be found under : My Settings > Your Options - Profile > Change Signature.

Isn't it also the case that although the Midland has monthly fairs, it has much larger quarterly fairs in March, June, September & December ?

Thanks for the warning. Already hit my first snag, coin I sent to Australia has failed to arrive. Was on international signed for, so fully insured, but a right hassle that I could definitely do without.

It'll be a pain in the proverbial trying to get the Royal Snail to pay out, I know from bitter experience!

I only ask because I have had some mail take up to 10 weeks to arrive there, others in less than 9 days. I once had a packet take 6 WEEKS to get to Eire!!!!!!!

You were lucky.

I've had letters from America arrive up to 6 months later, one of which had a Philipines Post mark in addition to the one from California. I've also had post addressed to Southampton University returned after a few months with "not known" scrawled on it!! The 20 or 30,000 staff and students would doubtless not be too chuffed to realise they don't exist.

On the plus side, surface mail to far flung places sometimes gets there in a day or two, presumably because there was spare capacity on a flight.

I used to live in a little Lancashire town called Colne. A friend of the family sent the kids a xmas card with some gift tokens in for xmas, it arrived eventually in March the following year after travelling to Cologne in Germany first. I mean, how do you confuse the UK with Germany?

Thats not a long time. I too have had to wait longer at times. Sometimes coins get held up in customs. I would check with Royal Mail though to see if theres a cut off period for making a claim.

I have 2 problems with the RM in nearly 1000 deliveries....a Q1 3d never arrived and it was a beauty plus an envelope had been opened and the coin removed...can't be bad...we used to send cash in cards to family in Harrogate always went missing.

That would match my experience. In comfortably over a 1000 trades, both in and out, I have had an India General Service Medal basically stolen on it's way to the isle of wight, a package from Oz opened and some of the contents removed, and a coin from san fransisco that never showed. Apart from that, I've sent bayonets to Queensland that turned up in 4 days, it's pretty good really IME.

One ebay win sticks in my mind, I bought a Krugerrand on ebay and the clown posted it in one of those A4 soft plastic envelopes you can get at the post office for special delivery. No packaging, nothing, just a Kruger basically in klingfilm.

I got it though.

This is the first time I have had a problem with coins but a few years back on one day, I ordered 5 CDs from 5 different locations in the UK and all of them failed to arrive. Suggest the postman was probably a star seller (or whatever) on e-bay... Present postman though seems quite a decent guy.

About 5 years ago I briefly lived in Workington while I was still in the police. I sent out 3 cased silver proofs from 2 different post offices to different addresses over the course of 2 days (all had to pass through the Workington sorting office). None arrived at the buyers addresses and none were returned to me.

I spoke to the area manager and told him it was obvious that there was a thief in the Workington office and he told me he would pass it on to the Post Office investigations department. 3 years later it was publicised by the local press that an arrest had been made of a post office worker in the Workington office for theft.

You're right Rob, the collection of a postman would be a thing to behold! One bad apple out of the many thousands of honest people that must have handled my deliveries.

I've never failed to receive anything from Royal Mail. Although as documented on here a few months ago, I have had numerous instances of recorded and even special next day delivery items, being shoved through the door, unsigned for. This, of course, is an opportunity for unscrupulous buyers to pretend they've never received the item.

At the moment I am waiting for an 1872 penny from the States. I opted for a $20 tracked option which was despatched on 13.11.10.
