Better to read all about it 400, it has a lot of forums etc dedicated to Ebay, hammersnipe is subscription based, whereas the goofbay one is free, you can snipe with 2 seconds left, just make sure your bid is high enough or else you won't win

Aren't you supposed to bid the most you're willing to pay for something in the first place?

These sniping programs are just to make sure you pay more.

It's called auction fever.

If you have a limit Fubar then you won't go over that, you insert what you want to pay, then it bids with 2 seconds to go, if you are outbid, then obviously someone wanted it more than you. Auction fever is down to the person not the programme, that just helps you win the item at the best possible price and timing

My trusty old stopwatch WAS THE BIZ.... but now ebay counts down its much easier.

I snipe but only at a price I'm happy with...if I lose so be it....but the thrill if you WIN something at a lesser price is great....even Mrs Peter might get a nice glass of red.

All my Ebay bids are snipes. I use the free Firefox addon. I put my maximum bid in and wait to see what happens

Well, i had $100 snipe on the 1866 penny in Coin Aquisition of the week and got it for $81, so i'm a happy bunny

You chaps have obviously failed to account for the infuriated seller (in some cases me ).

The scenario is; Seller lists item at 99p start to cut his/her already gut-wrenching ebay fees, seller does not set reserve because this is an invitation to ebay to violate their rectum for even more extortionate fees, seller expects said item to realise close to or even over it's value, with 12 hours to go bid is only at 99p and seller thinks "sod this for a game of soldiers" and ends listing.

Moral of the story, even the highest snipe sometimes fails to win the day

I take you point, but then auctions are a gamble for both buyer & seller, half the fun IMHO

I think the majority of items that are correctly described and have a decent high res picture of both sides find their price for the popular ranges.

For specialist areas, maybe Ebay is not the correct market place for sellers

The real fun is finding an obscure variety in amongst the junk; 2 years ago I spotted a 1903 with open 3 penny listed at 45p, I sniped at £25, not my fault I was the sole bidder and got it for the starting price. If I had put a normal bid in for this it would have stood out amongst the other junk and possibly attracted others to look, as to why anyone was daft enough to bid

Conversly I have sniped reasonable (to me) bids and been outbid enormously by other snipers

Myibay Firefox addon allows unlimited snipes down to 3 seconds for free

It's never happened yet, so it's a chance I'll continue to take.

That said, I have known others to bid lower than the previous snipe, within a few seconds of my bid. I know I'll probably get stung at some point, but it's worth the risk.
