I've got a halfpenny that looks silvery, it was done by heating it.

The buyer(s) of the 2 rare 1863 coins last year remain a none ee mouse.

I guess it won't be a well known buyer for this coin as the quality is not as good as the listing claims it to be.

I sold a better example a couple of years ago and I only called it GEF, due to it being slightly edgy with some minor nicks and bag marks.

New high end buyers are jumping on the investment hype every week and it is possibly one of those who is the high bidder.

There are better examples out there and they can be acquired for around the £2k mark if you look hard enough.

That was at London Coins as well, lot 1690, Penny 1919KN Freeman 187 dies 2+B EF or better with mottled toning

To be fair that one might actually be UNC or near for wear. I suspect they downgraded it because of the surface damage or 'delightful toning' as he puts it (not so delightful when you send it to a slabbing company and they reject it).

The £360 coin is no more than a really GF. Not even VF IMO.

As for the other coin - now be fair! The seller describes it as F (which is obviously short for F***ing awful )

That 19KN has some wear as well as lustre breaks and an average strike. Could "body bag" it at a TPG like PCGS. I do not like the areas of blotch that looked to have been attacked by some oxidant and perhaps cleaned or treated. The 69 will be a wonder if a true sale, as private bidders do not constitute a confirmed sale in my book.

I agree with Vickie on the "Private Sale" moniker. When I see that on an eBay auction, I don't even consider bidding.
