Gilded sh*t anyone? I ask you, why on earth gild a CuNi coin nobody wants in the first place? My mind is well and truly boggled.

1981 24K gold plated Charles & Diana wedding crown

Perhaps, to link those two posts, the photographer of the second is to be the official photographer of William and Kate's bash?

By the way, I own a gilded 1977 crown, even LESS desirable!

I just got a beautiful high grade 1907 farthing that some kind soul has gilded. I suppose I could list it on ebay as "Possible gold proof Edward Farthing" and start at £1000?

Oh yes - the "I've got a half sov here, guv" hopefuls of the Edwardian era :D Many a lovely farthing spoiled by that tactic :( I do have two high grade George IV farthings - one is evenly gilded but slightly dull in appearance, the other has a glorious lustrous sheen, but sadly the central portions have rubbed off leaving the underlying purple.

These things are still selling?! I also like the 'undated both sides' comment with a pic of the reverse only!

Some muppet would probably buy it!

I know bun heads are going crazy, but didn't realise they'd reached such dizzy heights!

Gordon Bennett !!! ~ for that price I'd want a die number under the date ;)

For the price I'd want the cat as well.

The most I'd pay for that coin is 200 quid let alone 900!

a friend of mine bought 1 of those gilded coins....a boy scouts 50p, hes not a collector, he is a scout leader and made it into a very nice trophy for his troope.

For the price I'd want the cat as well.

Scott my boy, the only thing a 1981 Crown would look good in is a smelter :D

Good God. That's the most common 1860s bun, right? The commonest date until the later 1880s. Absurd. Absolutely ridiculous.

Prsumably the starting price is a reflection (sorry) of the labour time required to get it to that state. An hour and a bit at minimum wage rates is about right.

Too right it's "Rather rare" - I've never seen one in such a crap state before!

I was already laughing at the pictures.... then I read the description!

Clearly I'm too late to make such an observation and in any case I don't have enough digits to count the mistakes.

I suspect that his name isn't John Kendall. Random letters put together in a haphazard fashion, will on occasion form sensible words.

Obviously a few short of the requisite number of monkeys with typewriters.
