Rob Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 It doesn't profess to be a proof. PCGS have assigned it MS64, not PR64. Spink UNC for a currency piece is £225, proof FDC is £1250. Quote

Spink, as so often, are ridiculously overstating the value. Edited May 29, 2014 by Peckris 1 Quote

Whilst I agree Spink are overpriced on the lower grades, I'm not so sure they are for nice pieces. Quote

Whilst I agree Spink are overpriced on the lower grades, I'm not so sure they are for nice pieces. Two points. 1. People are bidding up to that level because Spink says that's what the coin is worth. I know. I've "been there, done that" and learned a few hard lessons.2. BU 1887 JH silver is NOT uncommon. It's the easiest to find (arguably) until 1936. Ok, the florin down to sixpence are even easier, and so is the 1889 crown, but it's still not difficult, not in the slightest. Quote

Some might say that if that's what people are paying, then, by definition, that IS what the coin is worth2. The reason I posted this one was that I was interested in opinions as to whether people were paying a significant premium, even over Spink guide prices, for this extremely easy coin, simply because it is slabbed with a highish number by a reputable TPG - I suspect the answer is 'yes', and I think I am witnessing it increasingly on eBay UK - I will collate some recent results for eBay auctions (not BIN) for CGS coins Quote

Rob Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 A majority of the English coins have this bidder. the other one is s***a. Probably both shills because I can't imagine anyone actually wanting many of the pieces on offer. Quote

Weird how that happens...you respond to a post, not wanting to jam up a page with multi-quotes, and look what happens? Edited May 31, 2014 by Coinery Quote
Rob Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 But that was 3 hours and 4 or 5 posts between Peck's last visit and your reply. Still doesn't make sense unless you wrote it but didn't reply for a few hours.. Quote
