Asumel Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I have brought up a copper ingot or two from random wrecks, I think I will melt it down and create a 2014 old style penny and start selling them for £30 Quote
Geordie582 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 An obvious replica, described as maybe a replica yet people still bid high on it...What is the mark on that museum replica, Does anyone know? Quote

I'm not sure. Whether it's an intentional mark or a fault made on the casting of them I do not know.I've emailed 3 people this last 10 days, all selling the same usual 3d copy, and all usually misdescribed, and all accompanied by 'I know nothing about coins'! Here's another one! 331199733370 Quote

Coinery Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Henry VIII found in change... Hilarious! Had the presence of mind to determine denomination, monarch, and approximate starting bid, but is conveniently absent minded about the chronology of arguably the most famous king of England! Quote

Perhaps $65K is the mintage of the error and not the price asked. It's amazing that 3 people decided to slab. That in itself is the rarity.I'm not surprised he says thanks for bidding though, as even the most uncharitable seller ought to recognise the outlandish windfall this would represent if sold. Quote
scott Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 americans count that sort of thing as a variaty in itself. Quote

davidrj Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Extraordinary , this from http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=177838"There are only 3 in MS-62, there are more of them around but it is a very rare coin. Apparently they discovered the DDO at the mint very early in the production run and managed to condemn and destroy most of them before they ever go out. Add to that the misfortune that someone decided to make counterfeit 1969 PLAIN DDO cents. The Secret Service confiscated a bunch of the 1969 S DDO cents along with the 69 plain fakes. A few of the 69 S coins were eventually returned but most of them were destroyed by the SS as counterfeits before it was determined that they were actually genuine Mint issues. In all grades there are probably between 20 and 50 known today. And it is probably closer to the low end of that estimate." 1 Quote
scott Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 if that was a UK coin, we would just say worth whatever it is worth in that grade... just double struck.. Quote
