According to an article in April's Coin News, DNW will henceforth - from April - be known as "Noonans".

Although it's now 28th April and I've seen no evidence of it yet.

Small screenshot from article. Can't do anymore as it uses up too many kilobytes:-

Can't see the point personally, as we've all got used to the conveniently abbreviated "DNW". Not many would actually say "I bought my coin at the recent Dix, Noonan & Webb auction".

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You might almost think it was deliberate that this was announced in the April edition of the magazine………

But if true, how stupid.

DNW is simple n we all get use to say DNW here n there...but if they are originally partnership n others 2 are left, then name change is becoming a must for them.

Presumably their website name will stay the same which makes it all rather pointless.

I guess they will also have a new web address like noonans.co.uk which will immediately redirect you to their present site. Both the old and new web addresses must both get to the same site or there will be chaos.

Well indeed, as the vast majority of enquirers will have no idea about the change, and still be searching for DNW.

They'll also have to alter their logo, which is a pity as the one they have now is neat and effective.

I suspect they might refrain from changing their logo (for the short and medium terms at least). The same logo confirms that that it is still the same business and it is important to reassure clients of that. Guess we will find out in a few days time!

None of the three are leaving:

"In relation to the shortening of the company name from Dix Noonan Webb to Noonans, Nimrod Dix commented: “There really wasn’t much to debate when it came to which one of our surnames to run with. Pierce had the more suitable one of the three of us and was also by far the youngest, so that was an easy decision to make.”

With regards to the future, Nimrod went on to say, “It did cross our minds when we decided to shorten our company name that some people might see it as a sign that Chris Webb and I were taking early retirement, so now is probably a good time to say that this is definitely not the case. I am still working full time heading up the company’s medal department with no plans to retire any time soon and Chris spends most of his time on the road seeing clients. We are excited for the future and still have a lot to do, so it might be more accurate to say that we are only just getting started!”

Uh, this should not be about egos. Just keep the identity of the place that has become rightly recognised as a decent auction house with respect.  Well, at least they didn't go with "Nimrod"!

Its probably more likely to be changes behind the scenes and shares (ownership) that have made changes for the start of a new tax year.

Not uncommon for businesses to change directors , name etc. in March / april.

Imagine if they'd gone with Dix....

There are so many huge companies with multiple names. E.g. PricewaterhouseCoopers is known as pwc; Marks & Spencers is also known as M&S. No one have issues with their names. It's just creating some hassle for no real reason.

The change is complete. https://www.noonans.co.uk

You will get redirected immediately if you use the old web address. They have also done a makeover of their site, and as Mike has pointed out, they have changed their logo too.

Their new website is a disaster. It runs like a dog, has no option to increase the number of items per page and has no option to select a sub-set of lots (e.g. pennies) from an auction preview listing. They're not doing themselves any favours.

The DNW site was one of the best coin websites - very quick and easy to use. Excellent archive options.

The new site is (currently) several steps backwards.

Agreed. They were changing the name. They didn't actually need to alter the site functionality at all.

Bit of a dog's dinner now.

Just tried the archive function - clicking on a previous catalogue brings up............nothing. Don't they test these things before going live ?????

The special collections aren't working. Just tried clicking on the Laurie Bamford sale - as you say, nothing.

They should check every last function before going live, using a staff member working at home from their own personal device(s) if possible. But clearly haven't.

Yes, this is the one that's at the top of their home page. Not nearly as effective as the old one IMO.
